This is a good place for birders with a rich choice of our more common birds spending their life along water. We visited the last Saturday of September 2025 having heard that flamingos were to be seen here wading the shallow parts of the Aare river just before it merges with the Rhine. Indeed we found a few, most of which were far away even using a 1000 mm lens. Most of the time they were feeding with their heads below the water surface. A must for birders who happen to be anywhere in the neighborhood. It has an exhibition and a small room where movies are shown. At the back is an open wild area with even more exhibits and a kingfisher nest behind a hide. On my last visit there, I personally watched a kingfisher perched on a branch looking into the pond below for fish. It sat there for about 15 minutes looking left, right, up and down. That gave me enough time to set up my camera and get a few shots - my best kingfisher shots ever. Finally, at the main building are toilets and a coffee corner with various other drinks and snacks. Great nature reserve and very informative people. Very modern visitor centre with a small exhibition, film, cafe, garden and hide to try to see a kingfisher (Eisvogel). Very friendly staff. Well worth a visit. Lovely place, lots to see and learn about local wildlife. Beautiful place for bird watching Great place, informative staff, and lovely walk around the Dam. Don't miss out on this day! Not worth visiting.... This place is not worth visiting as they don't trim back the reeds and let the water fill with water weeds. The reeds block any view of the branches, The staff say this place is not for photographers who want to photograph the king Fisher but is there for the wildlife experience, their words !which consists of dragon flies or damsel flies and some bugs. But if you want king Fishers don't go in just look in the lake outside and it free. If I could give zero stars I would.
