Historial franco-allemand du Hartmannswillerkopf

Mulhouse, France History museum

One of the Best Places To Visits in Wattwiller Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. Great pit stop place in the middle of the forest. French & German memorial for the 1914-18 war. A place of quietude & somberness - to reflect on the insanity of warfare, something mankind never learns from! An excellent “boutique’ museum commemorating the grim Franco-German conflict during WW1 to retain control of the strategic spur at Hartmannswillerkopf. One can walk in the trenches and the it can take a couple of hours to go around. The museum is interesting and takes an additional 45 m to cover. It also has a small restaurant offering sandwiches and coffee. My first opportunity to walk round a WW1 battlefield and it's crazy how much is still as it was left, over 100 years ago now! We visited on a sunny day and could walk at our leisure. I can't begin to comprehend how hard life must have been for all the soldiers, on either side, who had to spend days weeks and months on this hill, just trying to survive. Everyone should visit somewhere like this at least once in their lives, to ensure some understanding of the absolute horrors of war does not get lost (like it seems the current crop of global politicians have...) Not the best Museum i have been to, but the actual site is an amazing place to see. Nice cake. Shame coffee is a vending machine Memorial is very poignant and it was a Nice touch for there to be guides in the old uniforms Very moving, would of liked to have looked around the trenches but unfortunately bike gear is not suitable for hiking. Museum was interesting most displays had English translation. A small but very interesting museum. They put quite a lot of information in one room. Together with the circuit of the memorial you will have a great overview about the Battle on HWK. If you are reading most of the texts you can spend close to 2hrs there. For the price of 7€, this is money very well spent. There are 2 short movies playing. The audio is voiced in French and German and switches between the scenes. This represents a nice touch. Especially the movie about the days of a soldier from the French and from the German perspective was very moving. The staff there is super friendly. We stumbled across this while staying in the Alsace region. We found it to be really fascinating. We did not go in the museum but walked around the cemetery and the trails that take you through the trenches. It’s amazing to see it and our children found it very interesting. We walked around the trails and back, we did not do the entire trail. There were only a couple other people we saw. Would love to return and spend more time hiking or seeing the museum.
