This is a housing complex, designed in 1960's by portuguese architects Victor Palla e Bento d'Almeida, was one of the first tourism oriented housing complexes in Portugal. The design concept was to replicate the small town feeling, as seen through a modernist lense. It has residential areas, central town facilities, pine forest and agriculture areas (now disappeared to give way for more housing). The facilities included supermarket, restaurant, swimming pool and café. At the moment, none but the swimming pool are functioning, although the buildings still stand. The swimming pool that exists, doesn't follow the original modernist design. The Cottage, as the developers decided to call in English (from Portuguese Aldeamento), is a very pleasant residential neighborhood. The pines shade the whole area and an create a particularly pleasant atmosphere, framing the houses. These are in a modernist meets vernacular style, typical of the Algarve modernism. The central facility buildings are products of a bygone time and bring unicity to this neighborhood. Many of the houses are being rent out to tourists.
