An important place for the history of Sweden and Europe. A truly fantastic with an atmosphere that will create a memory. AMAZING frescoes, smaller and bigger parts that provide the visitor with excellent historical context and an experience you will always remember. MUST SEE is very poor to describe it. Nice old a part of our heritage. Such a beautiful church, the paintings in its walls and ceilings are so detailed and pretty. And there are a few really interesting spots around it, in the complex. The ruins of a castle, destroyed when the Reformation. A spring of water named under St. Birgitta. A rune. A well where supposedly, the first christian king from Sweden was baptized. There is a coffee shop, restrooms and a restaurant around. Really nice cultural site, when we arrived there was also a small farmers market. This is a fantastic well worth a visit. It is from the time from the undivided (before 1054 AD) and might have been the first cathedral (domkyrka) in Sweden (english language lack a word for a cathedral where the bishop is located, but that is the meaning). Inside the there is prerecorded voice guiding which can be listened to after pressing a button (english, german, swedish). Peaceful and beautiful old Very beautiful church. It was unfortunately closed when we visited, but the exterior and surroundings are amazing. There is a story that the top of this could seen from the bedroom of Maria Euphosyne, wife of local lord Magnus Gabriel de la Gardie, from Läckö Castle. Almost 1000 years old and very very beautiful ❤ One of the most beautiful churches I‘ve ever visited, the history behind it is really interesting as well. Fantastic place. An early cathedral like church, where you can go some hundred meters up the slope and see why it was such a great place to be. Two springs nearby that compete about were Olof was baptized, and also with a bishop's castle very close. If you are lucky you can also see birds of prey there.
