Funicolare Como-Brunate Incline railway to the top of the area The railway reminds me of the incline railway that used to be in Colorado USA in the Royal Gorge We were there at a very busy time and it took less than 1 hour to get on the 5 minute to the top. Great on the way up and down. Numerous viewing areas where you can see the town below and surrounding homes. You can see quite a distance. The does require a ticket. The down side is they stuff as many people as they can in standing and sitting positions. Uncomfortable. The location was clean. Stay was semi- pleasant. Bathrooms - there was one I walked by on the right before reaching the ride. It gave the impression as not enough for the amount of people - so be prepared. There are tourist shops and restaurant at the top to. We had pizza that was great We are staying in the Brunate area around Lake Como. One way to get up and down to the city is to drive the narrow roads, and the other is to use the Funicolare. The pictures attached show the outside of the car as it is entering the station in Como. Then, there is a picture showing a inside the second car, looking to lower car (there are 3 car above). Just know these individual cars are joinned in stair-step way so that the 5 cars total all go up together, and that each car holds about 14 people, for a 70 people total up and down for each trip. Also, note, you really are not very high off the ground, so those with height concerns should not be affected, in my opinion. Last picture is from the Top Funicolare across from the entry, and shows the working area. Tip: if possible, and you will be using the Funicolare daily for a few days, I would encourage you to purchase a unlimited pass. The price is reasonable and you get to use the scanner lane, which is shorter and on the left, versus using the single up, down or round trip ticket. Nice view! The cost is 7.2 euros as a return (Nov. 2025). The cable car starts the trip every 15 minutes and the whole trip is around 6 minutes. Beautiful area. You should go to the village and get the chance to see beautiful houses and landscapes. Face Como and then go right 10 -15 minutes walk to another point. 21.8 We started in the top station at about 8, were the only ones in the whole vehicle. Was great. Paid in a machine for one ride, about 3,5 for one person one way. When we got down, there was maybe 5 people going to the top. In the kiosk I bought the to go back up at some point during the day and that happened to be the best decision ever. When we came back at about 12, the queue was super long. Like this we could skip it and go for the train. (Still had to till the next train comes up, maybe about 15 mins total) was great!! Recommend buying the beforehand if you can:)) A must do in Lake Como. Scenic of the lake and mountains. Go early because it's busy after 11 am Nice little tram, climbing the side of the mountain. There are Great on the way to the top overlooking the City of Como and the lake. Once at the top, there are breathtaking views, cobblestone streets, restaurants and a five star hotel. There wasn't a line to get on, you just had to briefly for the tram to reach the too or bottom, depending on which way you are going. times and no option to buy tickets online made the experience stressful from the start. The funicolare felt overcrowded and poorly organised. On our way back, the machine broke down and we were kept behind the gate for 2 hours before anyone informed us that buses would replace the service. The buses were also chaotic, with waits both ways, so in the end we decided to walk down, which took another 2 hours. The only saving grace was the stunning and the beautiful area itself – otherwise it would have been 1 star. I love a fun mode of transit, and this gives a beautiful of como, but if you're in the middle of the tram its a bit of a shame. The from the front/back windows looked stunning About a 7 minute on the funicular. Reach quite high altitude for a great of Como city. We came on a Tuesday at 3:45pm and it was quite busy. Funicular leaves every 15 minutes and we had to for a second train going up and coming down since the lines were long. Factor in extra time if you are to catch a ferry or train. Great on a partly sunny day. The was crowded but quick. Boarding can be tricky if going with a group. Once the max occupancy is reached, the line is stopped and someone in your party could suddenly be left behind for the next ride. There are limited during the and it's a pully-type system that uses the other tram for motion along the mountain which helped our heights-nervous friend. A good experience to try at least once. If you REALLY want to see the then definitely 30min+ to go up. Don't bank on any cafes restaurants being open or offering more than coffee, tiramasu or vanilla ice cream. All somewhat disappointing. It was a queue to get a , but the from high top of is amazing , compared to the queue , don’t miss it Took the on 8 Aug 25 in peak season. Not much queuing before 10:30am. The best was from the lighthouse, which took a 35-minute hike to reach. A small part of the path was quite steep. For those not having enough time to spare or can't handle the rugged and steep trail, use the shuttle bus service but prepare to and pay the fare. A fun experience overall. The was breathtaking. Wish to come back to see it in a different season!
