I recommend everyone to visit if you are nearby Staufen is a quaint old village with many beautiful buildings and a walk up to the castle is the best way to it. A walk from the train station takes you thought the town and past all the surrounding vineyards. There’s not too much to see at the castle itself but it’s all worthwhile just for the view. If your in Freiburg, it’s worth the drive to see Staufen. Great wine too. I mean, its free so thats nice, but its not as interesting as some others i visited in the region. Its always nice when you can actually go in and climb the tower and enjoy the view. There isnt an information sign anywhere so youll have to google it. Its also quite a steep hike up the hill so be aware. We visited when it was raining and cold so we were completely alone. Tough climb, especially with fully packed trekking bikes, but worth the views. Best enjoyed with a nice wine in town afterwards. Excellent place for walking and rest Interessante alte Burgruine.
