A small byzantine fort of 2600 square meters that is located on the hill of Fanari village 14km from the city of Karditsa. It has six towers integrated into the walls. Inside there are ruins of a few buildings such as a mosque, two tanks etc. Overlooks the Thessaly plain and offers panoramic views. Worth a visit if you're in the area. The entry ticket costs €3. The place opens at an undefined time between 8.30 and 10: signs around the area all report different information. It is a beautiful ruin with a wonderful view of the surrounding valley. There is a cafe' right before the entrance. Well preserved small Byzantine on top of a hill, west of Karditsa. Not advertised, but worth a detour. Entrance fee is 3 euros. Surprisingly well preserved (great restoration work) with great views of the Thessalian plains. The is small but definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area. The lady at the gate was very helpful and knowledgeable. Don’t forget to visit the cafe right below the for a nice refreshment with excellent views. Το βυζαντινό κάστρο φαναριου Καρδίτσας A perfect place to meet history! This is one of the best locations that anyone can visit from Karditsa and the villages around! Amazing view and a cozy cafeteria with great coffee, snacks, pastry and more! Excellent guide in Greek. Good guide book given with entrance ticket with English translation. Entrance only €2. Well worth the trip for the views alone. GREAT PLACE TO VISIT IF YOU ARE IN THE NEARBY AREA. FANTASTIC VIEWS OF THE THESSALI VALLEY. THE IS SYMPATHETICALY RESTORED AND THE LADY IN THE TICKET COUNTER IS VERY HELPFUL WITH DETAILS AND HISTORY OF THE PLACE. ON TOP OF ALL THAT THERE IS A GREAT CAFETERIA ATTACHED. Τα πιο πεταμένα 2 ευρώ που χω δώσει σε αρχαιολογικό χώρο Small but beautiful, and a nice lady at the ticket sell gave a tip to visit the lake Plastiras as well. Thank you! One of the best landmarks in Karditsa This is a real out of the way castle. The walls are in good shape as it has been restored many times. It is free to enter and the guy at the gate was very informative except he only spoke Greek.I got the idea of what he was saying.I have taken a screen shot of its position. As soon as you get up the hill there is a sign to Farari to the right.Go left instead and the road winds past the big church.Turn right up a track next to a blue Greek sign.I have taken a picture of it.Then you will see a small brown sign marked Kastro turn right and its about a couple of minutes away. Nice average castle but 5EUR for such a small place is too much.
