Nice casual dinner place. Wonderful beer from the Abby. Steak quality was very nice and flavor was good, although would prefer a bit less herb and spice added to the steak, but thats just me. Pancake and chocolate lava cake were spot on! Service was helpful and friendly. Really nice place to go for Belgium food and their own beers. The service was messy though. I greatly enjoyed my meatballs with French fries! And both interior and terrace are nice to be seated. Service went wrong, they brought the wrong drinks and forgot about our food while we had a brewery tour. The first time I was there, I was seated indoors and everything was perfect though. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place Lovely setting in the Belgian countryside. We had a delicious cheese tasting and several beers inside this old mill. The abbey is literally next door. Would definitely recommend a visit. Better to reserve in advance during weekends. Warm and unique atmosphere of the restaurant interior, feels like being in the museum. Very pleased with the service. Enjoyed the Abby local beer and Carpaccio. Our group of 5 got a table with one menu on it, and they didn't bring us any extra. It took about half an hour before someone came to take our order. Drinks came pretty quickly, but the food took AN HOUR to arrive. Nobody paid us any attention so it was difficult to order another round of drinks. The cheeseburgers were good, but not worth the wait. I don't know why we were ignored and service was so bad, we spoke French so that wasn't it. As I said, food was OK, but we're not coming back Such an uplifting place and great food and biere too - what're can you say!? This could have been a great experience however… The salad had visible mold and discoloration on the leaves. I showed the young waiter who told me he was the ‘boss’. I only wanted him to be aware and let the chef know about my plate. Then the negative experience started. He took the leaves from me and wouldn’t agree as the salad arrived only 5 days ago. Unbelievable that someone can’t handle feedback. When salad is slimy and discolored it’s overdue. Such a pitty aboit this. As he is ‘the boss’ I don’t recommend this place at all. The picture is the leftover of the salad with the (bad) leaves he already took with him when I showed him. Unpleasant experience. On 20/02/2022 we had lunch. The salad came with too much dressing. It was so much you could not taste anything else. After remarking this to the manager of the day (Leon Fils) he replied that it is how they serve it and will not do anything about it. After telling our discontent the manager told we could leave which we did after paying the bill. When we asked his name, he told the name of his father Leon Stassen, however it was his son, a young man named Leon Fils (his name was on the check) who was trying to blame it on his father. It is a shameful way to treat customers and avoid responsibility. His father is a talented man and its a shame he is ruining what he has established. Our previous experience a week before was wonderful, however we will not come back and neither will our friends. I tried many boulets in this region of Belgium, which is famous for this dish, and their boulets with dark Val-Dieu beer sauce are BY FAR the best boulets I EVER had. Highly recommended. The Latin music playlist was not very congruent with the surroundings and the historic concept of the abbey and the restaurant, so they may want to change that. The staff is friendly, and they have an interesting shop with local produce, such as abbey beer and locally produced cheeses.
