It's one of the best lively trails I've been on in Belgium! Loved every bit of this versatile trail. We walked for almost 20km. Most parts were by the river, with some uphill and in the forest. Obviously, we had all seasons in one day! Super recommended. Really walk! Advise to arrive around 10 as the car park fills up quickly. Waterproof hiking shoes are advisable as it can get muddy and wet along the path. But it's such a walk, especially in autumn with all the leaves golden and orange. Take your time and enjoy. It's well signposted so you won't get lost. nature through temperate forests with flowing streams. Full of colours in Autumn. Multiple paths available. Impossible to get lost but some areas have limited mobile reception so navigation might be a challenge of you are not sure of your trail. Some areas are very slippery when wet. The Hoëgne is a river, yes and a one. I started the around 9:30, early enough that the forest was still half asleep. The way up was quiet, just the sound of rushing water and the crunch of leaves underfoot. Compared to Ninglinspo, it’s less interesting in terms of hiking: more even, less climbing, no surprises waiting behind each turn. But what it lacks in drama, it makes up for in detail. The Hoëgne runs fuller, stronger, a higher-volume stream that carries both sound and light. Small cascades tumble over mossy stones, each bend a photograph waiting to happen. By noon, the calm had changed. On the way back, I crossed paths with families, dogs, photographers, and even a few runners. All sorts, really, drawn to the same and the same autumn glow. Lacking great heights, the Hoëgne invites you to look closer, at the moss, the foam, the way the water dances between roots and stones. October whispers through the trees, the answers, and everything moves as one. How could i missed this for so long? This is the most place in Belgium! This trial is certain very beautiful, different landscapes and plants. When we went in the mid of December, the snow has not melt, and it was raining so the is muddy. Somewhere was slippery with reminding snow, including many of the wooden bridges. Eventually I turn back in front of such a wooden bridge without a handrail. It might be ok as many others just walked over without needing to hold the handrail but I did not feel comfortable. It was a pity, I wish the park could make the bridge more safe for people. Challenging, route along the Hoëgne. Good walking shoes recommended. Definitely worth the effort. Come early, you'll still have plenty of parking. After 12pm it becomes more difficult. Parking: small dedicated parking space, but you can park up hill. Amenities: decent, we didn’t stop at the bar, but there is a small restaurant at the start of the trail. The Hike: It was really beautiful, the is good but somewhat muddy at times. Is it a good hike for beginners, with some rocks and small climbs if you want. We sometimes stopped following the original path and had fun climbing. Good hiking shoes are recommended, 1liter of water and a energy bar. hiking spot. It’s 10km long, went here with children in the summer, and took us almost 5 hours to finish, they just cant resist to play in the river. The track is not too difficult, but good hiking shoes are indeed recommended. The signs are everywhere, but I found the route a bit confusing. Had nothing else to do on my free day so I arrived here around 6:30... Waited until the sun came up and started the hike... The first part is brilliant (but slippy) and after reaching the end of this part near the Hoëgne, you hike through a quiet forest and will eventually up again at the parking. Not that challenging but also no easy walk... So far it was the best hike in Belgium. Took us around 2,5-3 hours to complete just this route without stopping much. It really is moderate to challenging for people who don’t hike very often. And beware if you have knee pain as it is a lot of incline and decline. We went first along the and back through the forest. About 20-30 mins into the there is a nice picnic spot with tables. The path back was super easy. Parking tends to fill up close to 13:00 on the weekend, however it is possible to park nearby but it will be quite a especially when you are leaving. Overall it’s a great place for anyone who likes nature. Absolutely beautiful!! Stroll along the surrounded by ancient woodland. Very peaceful and tranquil area ❤️ This is a wonderful (of which we only did a small fraction). I would like to indicate - it would be better if people could keep dogs leashed. We visited this with my mother and the got chased (nipped - not quite bitten thankfully) by a dog (I think a Malinois) off the leash on the walking track. It's a great place to your dog; but please don't let them roam.
