Skrīveru homemade ice is the place where the past blends with a future.Innovative ideas and historical facts about the most delicious homemade ice in a tiny village of I enjoyed my visit here so much not only because of the service that really makes you feel you are not missing anything but also and especially because the absolutely insane combinations of food and ice cream. It blew my mind and definitely made me look at ice from a different angle. I will definitely come back. This place has such a welcoming vibe. We ordered a table before an arrival and it was so romantic and beautiful. I decided to visit this place because of their salty ice cream. It wasnt my cup of tea. But those butter pancakes and sweet vine ice were heavenly. Must have to visit, because of those butter pancakes and to try salty ice cream. Absolutely loved the place! The staff is very kind and welcoming, a very warm feeling after visiting and eating ice cold ice-cream. We got some unusual taste of potato ice-cream with anchovies, and it was exceptional. It was one of the best ice-creams I've tasted here. They have many flavours. The consistency is not my favourite, it’s more watery so it melts quickly. The basic flavour like chocolate was very good, the more “playful” flavours like plum was okay, it tasted just sugary for me. And their homemade cones are not crunchy, more soft, which I don’t favour. Greates ice in Latvia that I found 😌 took home couple of different flavours as well. breakfast sandwich was also very 💯 Sigh, where do i start. When we entered this cozy little cafe, i was hit hard with the sweet smell of caramel and milk candy. The lady at the counter wore a slightly nervous smile as i asked her to translate their lunch menu. If you're reading this, odds are you know of this place because of their home made ice cream. Let me tell you, they combine savory dishes, like the salad and roasted trout we had, with savoury ice cream. Horse raddish or tarragon, for example. We figured, the trout will take a while so we should have some of their sweet flavors as an appetizer. A classic combination like rum and raisins or a slightly unorthodox oatmeal caramel were good, but the peppermint one really surprised me. The lightness of both texture and flavor was so spot on. If anyone has ever had tea made of dry peppermint leaves, its kind of like that, but its chilled, creamy (and made of dreams). This shortly prompted another round, this time consisting of their cottage cheese, (which tasted a lot of condensed milk), quince (properly sour, unlike those commercial ones i've had before) and beer ice cream, which tasted more of kvass, but if you told me it's a local dark lager, i would believe you. After this, the savoury dishes took a few more minutes. A cheese and greens salad with tarragon ice felt almost like a sourcream based salad, but the was slightly sweet, and in frozen ball form in the middle of the plate. You could also tell they use quality ingredients, because the olive oil used tasted and not at all like the discount stuff. Our four cheese pancake also had tarragon ice in the middle. It was also sprinkled with sun dried tomatoes and pesto, its a good, safe combination that really works almost anywhere. The trout took a few minutes longer but it was so worth the wait. The whole fish, oven roasted, stuffed with sage and lemon wedges, a large salad on the side and a ball of horse raddish ice cream. If you dislike horseraddish because of how intense it is, you might still end up loving this. Its wonderfully light and easy on the tongue, the ice form of it is creamy and slightly sweet, which perfectly complements the bitterness and dilutes it to a more manageable form. The bittersweet along with the fish, lemon and sage is a flavor combination i will definitely remember. With some refinement, this would not be out of place as a main course at a fancy restaurant. During our meal, the staff checked up on us, making sure we were happy and they just generally felt happy that we were there, which in turn made me feel in a way i haven't felt in a restaurant for a long long time. Oh and also, the portions are pretty big, we shared the 3 dishes and all of the ice between 4 people, which felt just a bit excessive. Overall, if any lunch experience ive had so far deserves a 5 star rating, its this. Highly recommended and we will return for sure. Amazing place! The best ice and service!
