Chapel of St. Samson

Landunvez, France Chapel

Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. Located in an elevated position above the rocky coastline with stunning views out to sea this tiny Chapelle is so beautiful and definitely worth stopping for. The chapel has Saint Samson as its patron saint, the second patron is Saint Yves. The recent stained glass window of the north window presents Saint Anne. The stunning altarpiece dates from the 17th century and shows, in sculpture, the 5 joys, the 5 sorrows and the 5 glories of the Virgin. The altar, with its decorations, probably dates from the end of the 18th century. They were restored in 2025, and the painter Augustin Frison-Roche created the work of art "Mary Protectress and the Iroise Sea" which was placed in the centre of the altarpiece. There is a fountain below the chapel where small children, or simply their shirts, were dipped to ensure their strength and health, to help them speak or walk, or to cure eye ailments. Fantastic views at sunset. On the GR34 round Brittany walking route. Magic ! Amazing views.
