It's a dirt road. Currently (2020) the is under restoration and cannot be accessed. The walls are huge. The was Byzantine. Interesting castle but not inaff information and open time is very problematic. Best ancient artefacts and romantic view. A very accessible historic site, located just south of the beach. An ancient and medieval fortress, formerly a pirated nest, offers a superb panorama of the bay or village. Unfortunately, access to the premises is not allowed (we probably had bad luck when we visited it). In one of the walls was preserved the inscription with the date of the fortification building. In certain periods, the municipality organizes various shows with coloured lights, well visible on the cliff. Those with stately and loving legs can also visit the ruins on the top of the hill, 300 m southwest of the fortress. At the base of the hill on which the was built, the access road has a bifurcation to the right, to the wonderful Amolofoi beach. Just go alone in the night, and take a look. The view is amazing. We had a quick walk up to the gate. On Google, it said open 25 hours, but whe. We arrived at the gate, and there was a lock on it. There was no one around to ask about getting in. There was also no sign or program on the gate. From far away, it looks interesting, and we wanted to visit it. No luck. The castle is closed. You can't visit it, to bad it looks spectacular! Visited whilst having a quiet stroll along the beach from Nea Peramos during 'Off Peak' season, so wasn't able to visit properly, but was picturesque nonetheless. A nice mediaeval to visit but the information around it is scarce and only in Greek. There could have been some informative signs around key places, such as gates or other structures to let visitors know what they are looking at. Other than that, it is a good place for those fond of archeology in Kavala area. Old, deserted city in ruins, half rebuilt but never finished Great archeological site, open to the public. The scenery is ideal for a spring picnic or just an evening hike. Turns into a concert hall every August, you may want to avoid missing it if you're around at that time.
