The sculptures along the east coast are great, well detailed and informative , Seaham is worth a , its know for its glass along the beach , you can spend hours on the beach looking for the smooth. pebble like Glass , Nice front and shops along the front , its only a small place but easy to spend a day here . Walk to the lighthouse and Nose point If you ever Seaham you must always stop by and Tommy. It's such a beautiful piece of art representing a very powerful moment in UK history. He never fails to impress. I've been visiting him for years and the beauty of him never fails to touch my soul. I don't want to say too much and ruin anyone's experience of visiting. Just be mindful you now need to pay to park, but your £1 is most definitely well spent. Enjoy! What an awesome sculpture, so much detail more so in the face. If you have not seen Tommy take a drive to Seaham. Maybe at the next Seaham Food Festival weekend, combine the two. Only one thing as with all carparks you have to pay, however there is a home bargains just down the road for free parking Tommy is an amazing sculpture. The along the beach was bracing. We found some sea glass to take home for our granddaughters. Fish and chips in Bells were delicious. This is an amazing sculpture and a fantastic commemorative piece and not to mention an engineering triumph. The whole town is great. Then for "chippy tea" at Downeys. Amazing place for bikers to meet up, unfortunately Durham Council are going to start charging for motorcycles to park there. I think this will have a detrimental impact on the local shops and loose the local shops a lot of income. Other than that one of Durham finest places for coffee, food and site seeing. The memorial is an impressive piece of sculpture. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder 🙂 the views from the top of the cliff at Seaham are great. It is a quiet, clean good spot to stop for a coffee or fish and chips. Friendly staff at the chippy across the plaza where the Tommy WWI memorial is placed. The harbour was closed ,but the car park affords good views of the sea. A small grassed around the monument and some parking spaces plus a view of the sea and harbour which is a small south. Quite a few cafes adjacent to this area, so easy to get a coffee, even take outs. A stunning sculpture to reflect upon the soldiers of WW1 not only to make you think about the loss but also to consider those that came back. I feel that this captured the moment… It was on my to do list and is now one of my favourites. A sad but lovely piece of history. Seaham itself it a place to visit, tidy and well kept with a fish n chips dinner The village this is situated in is lovely everyone was so friendly. The statue is amazing and there are lots of beautiful benches around it and a fence along the opposite side where they have lots of handmade metal poppies with names, rank Nd year people who passed during their time in the forces This is an amazing statute, such fine details, very evocative especially during the VE day celebrations. We come and see 'Tommy' on every to the area. Almost always start and finish my motorcycle rides here. Great scenery, cafes, nice fish and chip shops, ice cream parlours and shops. Enjoy chatting to the friendly local people and usually a mass of bikes on dry days. In the summer it can get super busy so if wanting to come down early for a parking space at the stutue however yhere is plenty of surrounding free places to park a short away from the statue.
