Château d'Oron

Lausanne, Switzerland Castle

One of the Best Places To Visits in Oron Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. We visited this medieval above the city of Oron on the border with the canton of Fribourg the last Sunday of April 2025. It dates back to the 13th century and was privately owned till the mid 1930-s. Now it's managed by a private association which rents part of the for events like weddings. The most interesting part of the visit to the interior of the massive building is the library that exposes some 18000 leather bound volumes. This section is unfortunately not possible to visit, even with a guide. We were also struck by the hundreds of interdiction labels on furniture and objects on display. Overall, a mixed experience. A nice little castle. Can be visited at the weekends, afternoon Interesting on a small hill....Can be visited when open. I just had a quick ealk around....to be done ...Weather was grey Always seen from the train journeys to/from Lausanne & Fribourg which is nice! Very striking with visits available but not during the winter. The setting is nice also. Easily accessible via bus from Palézieux or Romont. We got married here in 2012 and have wonderful memories of the castle. Top! Great and interesting visit! very well kept. A hidden gem! Only open for visitors on weekends The is very charming inside but has several drawbacks: • It lacks tourist infrastructure (audio guides, cafes, etc.); • Not all rooms are open for visits (for example, the library can only be seen through the glass); • It is located in a very small town and is its only real tourist attraction. I would recommend it mainly to people who are visiting the region — this is a local tourist attraction — or to enthusiasts of history and medieval castles.
