Reis Magos Beach

We have been to now 6 swimming spots and this is by far our favorite. This is very surprising as I never thought I would like a pebble beach. This is a great location for small children as there is a closed off spot to help keep the water as calm as possible. There are lifeguards patrolling here. There are 3 spots to swim. One side is a normal pebble with a few umbrellas and wooden beds. There is the middle area where it is the closed off one. One the other side of the closed off is open water where it is quite deep and you can jump off the stairs or the top. By the open ocean are the outside showers. There are public bathrooms here, make sure you bring your own tissues for when they run out of paper. By the bathrooms are dressing rooms. First aid is also in this area. Right behind the are 2 restaurants and a SSI diving school/sea school. This in Madeira offers a rather unusual experience. The surface is concrete, and the seating area is on stones, which might not be the most comfortable setup. The view is also underwhelming compared to other beaches on the island. However, it does have a small shop and a cozy restaurant, which are nice touches. Overall, it is not the most appealing spot and may not be worth a special trip. A quiet (early March) promenade and frequented by sun seekers and brave swimmers. The promenade has some showers as well as a cafe serving a good selection of food for all. Beach is rocky, see photos, with pools where people were swimming. Along the are a few wooden wind breaks which, if you can get one, provide excellent sun traps. The whole area is served by the promenade that stretches along this part of the coast. The water is very clear, nice for snorkeling, there is shower facility also. Great views to the south of the island, beautiful blue seas. Not a sand beach, but there is a safe swimming area. Amazing vistas, welcoming locals, and very good seafood restaurants. There are around 10 umbrellas you can use for free but you might want to bring something soft because they are cemented on a hard surface. A couple of outside showers and a public toilet which is well maintained. You can go scuba diving right there or have a meal in a nearby restaurant. Wonderful place, full of locals and free access to the beach.
