Santo da Serra Farmers Market

Santa Cruz, Portugal Farmers' market

One of the Most Revieweds in Santa Cruz Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. A mixed of local farm products and tourist goods. Prices for fruits and vegetables are cheaper than Santana or Santa Cruz. Wet and cold. seemed small but i think that was because of the weather. Bought a furry hoodie but nothing else. Had hoped for madeira embroidery or wickerwork but nothing like that. Just cheap tat. I highly recommend this Sunday market, it has a variety of local food, drinks and amazing atmosphere where people gather and chat. Prices are very reasonable, there is great selection of local fruits, all was delicious. We found a parking space on a side road but I also think that right next to the marked is car park. This was great. There's a produce side and a souvenir side of the market. The homemade sandwiches sold at the restaurant there are the best on the island. They also only cost about 3.50 euro. The bread is made fresh in front of you. Open on sundays, this is aimed for locals but gaining huge attraction with tourists. It’s a bit chaotic ordering the ribs and poncha with no particular line up system. Just gotta get in there. So many fruits and veggies. If you like tremoços get’em here cuz they’re super fresh!! Portuguese fried pork skins are also available here and fresh, i totally recommend (you need sturdy teeth, not like chicharrones) Make sure to cross over the road and check out the rest of the where they sell souvenirs, clothing, other food stalls and knick knacks. Very small not much to see, I think it’s good for the locals to visit and hang out around the food stalls and have a few drinks, I tried the sandwiches made from pork cooked in wine and vinegar that I grew up eating but it wasn’t as good as my family made, after we visited a little park that was close by that had a few animals and that was pleasant and a cute little church. Really fun, great food at an unbeatable price. The other side of the is full of tourist tat but vendors are friendly and not pushy. Get there early if you don't want to get into gridlock traffic and struggle to park. Pico de Ariero is a short drive away (we went after the at midday and it was easy to park and do the shortened trail) Bored with nothing to do on a Sunday? Then get in your car and head off to Santo da Serra Farmers Market! Here you will experience the real Madeira locals. Amazing food being barbecued right in front of you! We ate 2 whole chickens with chips washed down with ponchas that put hairs on your chest! And it cost less than €20!! Bargain! Such a great day out with fruit and vegetables markets, plenty food to eat and lots of things to buy such as leather bags, shoes, ornaments etc!! Highly recommended.
