We visited Hoensbroek with our 3 (4, 6, 11). Outside they had a festival, so the children played around with medieval-style — even tried out bow and arrow. That part was fun. Afterwards we went inside the museum. It was all okay, but honestly, I’ve seen much better and more interesting castles. The youngest boy got a bit scared at times, because you have to go down into cellars and through dark stairs and passages. Overall fine for a visit. Passed by on our road trip and had to stop to look around because it was big, impressive and beautiful. Sadly we couldn't inside because we had to carry a small dog. The was built in 1360, the nature a round is very peaceful Amazing castle, loads to see, interactive for kids. Definitely worth the visit! I was staying nearby in Heerlen and had the Museumkaart so I decided to Hoensbroek on a weekday. I didn't expect much, but it was actually very beautiful and the museum display was modern and well thought out. It's definitely worth getting the €2 guidebook (especially if you only speak English) as it explains the route and every room. There are some signs and explanations, but mostly in Dutch and you can easily miss out on the prison and secret room if you don't have the guidebook. They also have some nice modern displays with projections and explanations also available in English. I thought it was very cute that these were triggered by pressing a key shaped sensor to a lock. Some rooms also had an older audio guide triggered by buttons on the wall. The also seemed very kid-friendly, they had stamps to be collected, and interactive displays. There are however lots of stairs and you can go up to the rafters of the donjon, but if you have difficulties with stairs I'm not sure you would enjoy it. The also has a cafe and quite a few lovely birds. Definitely recommend visiting it if you're in the area and love castles! It is a family residence, few museum objects but enough. An ideal place to for a family with children. You do not have to be a enthusiast and connoisseur of history. Nice with a nice history. A lot to see! really enjoyed it Nice and interactive museum, oriented towards (stamp card, interactive games, old area, kinderfeestjes options). Museumkaart accepted. Free parking on site. Restaurant Domestique with small, but surprisingly well cooked menu. Briefly well worth stopping by They accept the museum card it is a lovely place! We will be going back for another fun day. Had a time. It's a nice well maintained castle. Children have well prepared surprises. There are holographic characters. If you buy tickets online you have a discount. Hoensbroek is an absolute must-visit! One of the most beautiful and well-preserved castles in the Netherlands, it offers a wonderful journey through history. The architecture is stunning, and each room is full of fascinating stories and details that bring the past to life. The grounds are lovely to explore, and the staff are friendly and welcoming, adding to the overall experience. It’s perfect for families, history lovers, or anyone looking for a fun and educational day out. A truly impressive with charm, character, and a lot to discover, highly recommended! Did the whole experience with the history, key, story. Quite enjoyable and interesting - definitely something fun for as well. Beautiful experience, beautiful castle. Good, silent, historic place. Entrance ticket is available for purchase-15 euro per person. They claim this is the most beautiful in The Netherlands. Certanly, it is very interesting. Really nice experience. The 3 different eras and styles are very unique. The route through the can be a little confusing for moments. A lovely if you are in the area. One of the most interactive castles I've been to. Things for the children and information for the adults. Be sure to make it downstairs for the game room. And have your do the stamp map for a souvenir. We visited on a Sunday a little too early it wasn't open yet, but we still managed to have a look around before heading back to the UK. Some of the most friendly people here we've met! What a gorgeous place. I will definitely be back to spend a day here! We spend a lovely afternoon at Kasteel Hoensbroek, which was just perfect for families with kids. We were free to roam the (steep and narrow staircases, make sure to wear the right shoes!) and our kid was given a special key that would activate holograms of people living or working in the castle, depending which area you'd get to. Although I am sure a guided tour will be even more fun, this was just perfect for with short attention spans. They had loads of activities, inside and outside the castle, and the treasure map was an absolute bonus. What a job they did with this castle, well done and well worth the price! Beautiful full of energy. I will recommend more information about route. It is not clear when to go up, down, left right. A bit uncomfortable for elderly or handicap. for kids. Lots of engaging to keep them entertained. Grounds can be visited freely at leisure. There is a short film in Dutch included in the entrance fee, but plenty to see otherwise.
