Kabouter Buttplug , die in feite een kerstman is staat op het Eendrachtsplein , en heeft zoals zo´n beetje alle kunstwerken ook een betekenis. Volgens maker Paul McCarthy staat zijn werk voor de consumptiemaatschappij waarin wij leven . Iedereen is uit op steeds meer bezittingen hebben en krijgen. De kerstman staat symbool voor deze levensstijl. Kerst is een tijd waarin veel mensen extra geld uitgeven aan cadeaus voor zichzelf en voor anderen. Waar komt de naam kabouter buttplug dan vandaan? De kerstboom die kabouter buttplug vasthoudt , wordt geassocieerd met een anusdildo. En dat is ook niet geheel vreemd . In een intervieuw gaf Paul McCarthy aan dat het idee een keer is ontstaan doordat hij zelf een kleine kabouter en een buttplug op zijn kamer had staan . De buttplug had hij ooit voor de grap van vrienden gekregen. Deze twee objecten stonden naast elkaar op zijn nachtkastje en zijn samen één geworden in de vorm van '' Santa Claus ''. Ondertussen is het kunstwerk echt '' Rotterdams '' geworden . Want als iets een eigen naam krijgt in de volksmond is het geaccepteerd en onderdeel geworden van de cultuur.
