This is a modern (built in the early 1900s), of course still well preserved, which houses a and seems to serve more ceremonial/organizational purpose than tourist ones. I only discovered it when I brought my kids to do the Gruffalo path (which is the only reason I even found out about Windeck castle, as the path leads up to it), but couldn't find opening hours on their website. I decided to come and see if we could explore the castle; we parked at the Wanderparkplatz just prior to entering the grounds and walked up the paved path, through the wooden gate that was open, and under the stone arch lladen with crests. There happened to be a large party there that night for a business' employees, which looked like a grand old time, and the setting was wonderful for it - once you walk through the arch, the indoor entrance is immediately on the right, but then you see the terrace in the courtyard, which has a great view and has wonderful ambiance, many tables, even couches to lounge on. The surrounds you, with its beautiful windows and stone walls and a single tower (that I saw). I couldn't find anywhere to enter the itself that was open to the public, and there were no obviously staff members to ask, so we simply enjoyed the view for a few minutes and went on our way. The menu looked fantastic, if a little too fancy and expensive for me to stop there with just myself and three young kids 5 and under, but I'd guess it'd make for a great date night or girls night out. This, topped with ample close parking, makes for a wonderful evening! A great location with good walking and parking the seemed expensive. Very nice view over Weinheim. Not so much a as a which was closed when we visited at lunchtime. Elevated location but honestly I've seen better views. Steep walk through the forest. You can skip the workout for that day 😀 Die Wachenburg never fails to be a place with great views! The inside had delicious food ( smoked trout plate & a Burrata plate - both were near divine). Charming overlooking the city. Nice place spending time..
