One of the Best Places To Visits in Koekelare Frequently mentioned in reviews: Top-rated.online cuts through the clutter, highlighting only the reviews that are most helpful, earn the most likes, or come from the most active contributors. with few war memorabilia and very confusing. Furthermore, the guides for the touristic groups speak too aloud, so is absolutely impossibile to stay concentrated to listen your audio guide and to read the screens. Small but hyper ... the local "gun from Navarone" in World War I. De naam verwijst naar een kanon. geeft de levensomstandigheden weer tijdens de oorlog Brilliant small highlighting the events in the area during WW1 The is devoted to the German 38 cm SK L/45 "Max" gun and the German occupation of Koekelare and the nearby area in World War I. The focus on the German side of the war makes it a unique in Belgium. The is named after the nickname of the German gun "Lange Max", which was one of the biggest guns in the world in 1917. The gentleman on reception took the time to explain in more detail about the site and it's significance. Onsite Bistro was buzzing but didn't have time to sit down and enjoy the atmosphere. Very mixed crowd from young to old and the site was spotless Not too much to see other than the platform on which Lange Max sat. A bit little known in the region, but definitely worth a visit. Another very piece of what happened in this part of the Flanders during the first world war. The small is kept open by volunteers but we had a very explanation by one of them, which made it even more worthwhile. The is small but and very well done, after having visited it you can walk further on outside to where Lange Max used to be. There is a also a very nice place to have a drink and something to eat. In the whole for such a small place, it was very worthwhile to make stop! WW1 German perspective well set out very interesting. The actual gun site still exists a few hundred metres walk away. The town was occupied by the Germans and was a pioneer regiments base. There is a great restaurant on the site well used. Wonderfull that gives impression of the opposite side, the Germans. Excellent guide. A must visit! A gem Ein sehr beeindruckendes rund um den ,,Langen Max". Liebevoll gestaltet. Wir waren an einem Sonntag hier. Der Parkplatz war leer und ist kostenlos. Es empfing uns Marcel Demarré. Ein sehr freundlicher Mann, der für uns auch auf Deutsch sprach, so gut er konnte. Er führte uns ins und erklärte uns vieles. Am Ende zeigte er uns noch seine Funde, die er gesondelt hat. Ganz liebe Grüße. It's a very nice war in flanders fields, not so far from Ypers, that explains history of the first world war around the region and history about the largest cannon in that time. You can even see the place where the cannon was located. The cannon itself is gone, but that doesn't mean that the remaining site isn't impressive to see. Also the cafeteria next to the is handy to drink a nice Belgium beer :) It's only 10 km from Ijzertoren Diksmuide, so it's also easy to go there for a visit. Myself and three friends travelled from the UK to visit this on 8 September 2017. We arrived at 2.30pm in the middle of the advertised opening hours. It was pouring with rain and we found the closed and locked up with no notice displayed as to the reason why. We asked at the nearby cafe and they said that it should have been open. I have emailed the proprietor to ask the reason and my mail has been ignored. I would not recommend a visit to this on the off-chance that it will be open, even when it should be. Great small with big historical story. Thanks for an older gentleman from service who told us many things about the history of this place.
