Een groot deel van de inboedel, meubels en schilderijen werd toen vernield. In 1981 werd het door de laatste kasteelheer van de familie de Jonghe d'Ardoye verkocht Op heden is het zelf privaat en niet publiek toegankelijk. De provincie West-Vlaanderen kocht 44 hectare van het kasteelpark en richtte er het provinciaal 't Veld in. Een deel van het is niet publiek toegankelijk omdat het beheerd wordt als natuurreservaat.
