The beacon of Ruotsinsalmi sea fortress, which also served as a guard tower, was designed in the 1790s by Jean Augustin Prevot de Lumian. The 27-metre high beacon had a six-storey double tower built of bricks which rose from the lower part made of stone. The other of the towers served as a staircase tower. After the fortress was decommissioned the beacon began to fall into decay and the Anglo-French navy blew it up during the Crimean War in 1855. The lower part of the beacon, made of natural stone, was restored at the end of 1980s and an observaton platform was built on top of it.
