The was closed for a long time and unfortunately it was not yet ready to open when we were in Arles. Well, after 11 years of closure, Museon Arlaten has opened its doors to the public again. Thoroughly renovated and full of things. The was founded by Frédéric Mistral. An extensive renovation was required that respects Mistral's heritage and more than a century of history. built around Roman vestiges of the Forum Amazing spot to learn about history of southern France and Arles in particular. Very modern. Beautiful presentation. Amazingly designed museum. Really with nice things to see. Fantastic museum. Very artefacts and folklore objects and wonderful interactive boards. Loved seeing the remains of the Roman Forum. An impressive museum. MA brilliant and surprising - well worth a visit We only visited this as the exterior looked and it was included for free on our 'Pass de Liberté' which we bought to access the Roman Theatre and Arena - but what a treat it was! Fascinating showing local life through the centuries including costumes, and implements from farming, fishing, agriculture etc. The building itself is fascinating - Roman remains in the basement, a Jesuit chapel on floor l and a series of modern rooms with architecture and pictures. It includes staged by Christian Lacroix who was born locally. Good use of audio visual elements for younger visitors - and lots of signage in English so easy to interpret. Great exposition of regional culture, not much on ancient Roman times, except that the building is constructed over Roman ruins. Free admission. Particularly good displays of regional dress... noticed small stature of the people, based on sizes of period garments. This was a wonderful on the folklife of Arles and surrounding area from the 15th century to modern times. The were exceptional. We spent about 2 hours here although one could spend much longer. The was founded by Frederic Mistral and he poured his love into it. I highly recommend a visit. Very place! Beautiful and exhibitions. Is little bid compplicated, will be good to have someone explaine the articles inside . But was nice Absolutely brilliant to learn all about the history and culture of the region, as well as the history of the itself. There are fantastic interactive screens throughout which present the information in several languages. The building is beautiful and the people working there are very friendly. Fabulous museum, focused on Provençal history. Friendly staff. Allow 1 hour minimum. Really well put together local museum. Great about the Provence and its culture. The chapel and ruins are worth a visit and the are excellent. A great gem and def worth a visit. By the time you are finished with the exhibits, you have a real understanding of the culture. The display with the Shepard and sheep is very interesting. If you’re visiting Arles, buy the pass that gets you into 4 places - it will save you money. We didn’t figure it out until it was too late.
