Only 33km outside Bodo city you can experience this spectacular natural when the current tide turns and flows in and out of the channel between Saltenfjorden and Skjerstadfjorden The current is influenced by the moon and the sun Saltstraumen is the world's strongest maelstrom It's truly amazing to see the water change constantly . Very strong currents make it a natural phenomenon. An interesting natural phenomenon. The best view is from the top of the bridge. The path is arduous, but worth the effort. The atmosphere at sunset is particularly special. You won't need more than an hour here. Very fascinating natural with incredible forces of water! Definitely worth a stop and a nice area for a quick walk. Just make sure you check the website that shows when the current is the strongest. When you're here at the wrong time you won't see much. Check the tidal times before you go , otherwise you only see eddies but the surrounding scenery and the walk along the bridge is fantastic On visiting Day vas very calm, couple of fishers was doing race who's will catch bigger or more, funny guys was nice to meet. But unfortunately was no proper current, water currents spined slowly. But on my plans to come back again. Interesting to see, fascinating how the water moves. Check tide timetables for the right times, supposedly the high tide is better than the low tide. From the bridge, is the best spot to see the water. If you plan to go in the late evening and do free camping in the area, it is difficult to find a spot so mane sure to arrive early Absolutely Worth seing. It is so beautiful and Worth a Trip Not far from Bodø by Bus. Unique to say the least. Thinking that the ocean can be up to 1 m higher on the two sides of the straight speaks to the power and the speed of the tides An amazing phenomenon. A very interesting place for nature lovers. It is nice . Follow the time table of in and out . Unfortunately it was October for me so the time to see was .. very dark to see whirlpool. Please never go to Norway in October , if. you are planning long holidays. Weather is really - in the middle. I wish someone had guided. It is fine to waste 3-4 days but 15-20 days … could be tricky.
