You can walk down to the water level to enjoy the scene. An impressive with great views It's a concrete bridge, nothing special at all. The below swirl a little bit and that's about it. We went on a cruise excursion and it was okay. The scenery was okay and obviously nice to get off the ship but we are from Morecambe bay which makes these look like a mill pond. I never really googled it before going and imagine going over some sort of small wooden with raging flowing through. It is actually a large concrete with graffiti on and like I say slightly swirling waters. Very cool. Well worth time and cost ($45 per person). Bodo Taxi is best way to see the largest maelstrom in world. Most time efficient, brings you right to edge for safe viewing, smooth and warm ride in comfy Tesla to and from site, and much lower cost per person than rib boats. Easy to book on line. Bodo taxi app (Taxifix) worked like uber. We could see car approaching. Atla, our Driver/ guide spoke perfect English, was very informative and took group photos for us. As Two couples with very limited time in Bodo, we appreciated pick up at Radisson hotel and drop off at airport. Atla knew best time to go to see maximum whirlpools. 3 hours before high or low tide appears best times to see. The view from this is incredible. 400 million m³ of water pass here every 6 hours. The tidal wave is 3 m high and the water speed is 40 km/h. Very interesting phenomenon. The currents move in different directions and it causes whirlpools. Worth checking ahead when the currents are at their peaks so you'll get to see the strongest whirlpools. While visiting nordland you need to see this and the powerful stream underneath. You can go on the shore or with the boat. Unique experience to see something special like this View from the to Bodø (or rather Mørkved perhaps) with the famous Saltstraumen (pics & vid July 30, 2023). Perhaps we should have walked the bridge. My bad, my feets was tired. Amazing natural phenomenon- so beautiful and accessible unique place on our globe, it's worth coming and seeing what nature can do. It is worth to know in advance the details of when the water returns, tides. The time of year does not matter, but the hour does. It is worth planning a visit to this place.
