Wow! What a hike. On recommendation from our accommodation host to do the route in reverse/clockwise (as he feels it is prettier that way), we set off at midday yesterday, Sunday 09/02/25. Starting in Moclín near the Ermita de San Antón we found it quite tricky (walking through the forest and beyond) - a bit slippery and very rugged - walking the initial 1-2kms. However it was absolutely gorgeous with such varied terrain and stunning scenery. Going at this time of year the temperature was great for walking and we had the stunning Sierra Nevada bathed in snow as our backdrop for most of the circular route. The only negative was the horrendous amount of dog mess on the part down from Moclín to the suspension bridge. Several people had dogs off leads so wouldn't know if their dog had done a poo. It was disgusting. Other than that, everyone was so friendly, passing and always saying hello. We loved the suspension bridge and arriving in Olivares as a mid point. It was a great option for a lunch stop before the hour's climb up to Moclín. It took us two and a half hours of walking/hiking time. We are used to doing hikes a few times a year, and walks very often - so are fairly fit and used to it. If anyone wants to do this but is nervous or unable to do the climb, I would recommend doing it from Olivares and doing the 2km to the suspension bridge and then coming back the same way. Beautiful 😍 The waterfall was amazing in March, one of the best I've ever seen Wonderful hiking trail ! Plenty of shade in Summer ! Not difficult and well maintained. Wonderful walk along the Rio Velillos It was an amazing journey, our only mistake was we only take one bottle of water with us! But the view from the mountains was stunning it look like camino del Rey but then for free. Great hike. But some tough places with climbing along the road. But the wildlife and nature made it worthwhile. Easy circular route of just 10 km. Better to do it in anti clock direction. You can have breakfast in Moclin do the route and back again to Moclin to have a diserved beer. Beautiful walk with rocky walls, bridges and the river nearby. Suitable for going with kids or the entire family Fantastic route with stunning views! Be prepared for steep climbs and steeper descents, not for the faint hearted or calfed! Saw a lot of native wildlife on the way round including terrapins, crayfish, Ibex, frogs and Ibex! Thoroughly recommend for all walkers although allow 5-6 for non walkers!
