Flere hundre år med jernverkshistorie samlet på et sted. I 1738 ble jernverksvirksomheten samlet her og etter mange år med sammenhengende drift ble verket lagt ned i 1959. Unfortunately, due to lack of time and the prevailing pandemic, we only managed to take a few photos and see the outside. I know one thing we will definitely be back there to explore the interior. I fleire hundre år var Noreg ein stornasjon innan jarnverksdrift, fram til meir moderne metodar gjorde at England og kontinental-Europa tok over på 1800-talet. Men Næs Jernverk heldt det likevel gåande til 1959, hundre år etter at dei andre norske jarnverka gav opp. Då var det ein storflaum som sette ein stoppar for drifta. Maskinene og verktøya står som dei gjorde då arbeidarane måtte forlata staden i 1959. Dette museet kjem høgt opp på lista over norske ein bør ha besøkt! This is a very museum. Our was very knowledgeable, friendly and went out of his way to explain how the iron and steel were produced. There are lots of very old machinery and products to view. The grounds are beautiful with a nice trail to walk on. If you come when they are closed for a guided tour, you can still walk around and read about each building and what was produced (you just can't go in them). There are also some small wood boxes on trees and buildings that you can open and learn about what life was like back then. Fascinating place! It was 240 NOK for 2 people.
