An amazing location with so much to see and explore, some lovely walks and many outstanding features. A super location and well worth a half day visit. Good parking and something for every taste Stepping into Heywood Gardens felt like entering a secret paradise hidden from the rest of the world. The vibrant colors of the flowers, the gentle rustle of leaves in the breeze, and the warm embrace of the sun created a sensory symphony that captivated my heart from the moment I arrived. Wandering through its winding paths, I found myself lost in a world of beauty and serenity, where every turn revealed a new treasure waiting to be discovered. With friends by my side, the experience was elevated to new heights as we shared moments of joy and wonder amidst the tranquil surroundings. From picnics by the pond to quiet contemplation in the shade of ancient trees, Heywood Gardens offered a sanctuary of peace and happiness on a sunny Irish day. It's a place I'll carry in my heart forever, a reminder of the simple joys found in nature's embrace. Great place with ruins, a gate, a pathway around the lake/ pond and it's all surrounded by the forest. Great place for a and a relaxing time with nature What a great place to visit. There is a huge car park, so plenty of parking even when busy. There are toilets maintained by the OPW right beside the car park 👍 To reach the gardens follow the signpost. There is a short enough through the forest towards the gardens. The first port of call is the sham castle, built by the rich to entertain their guests. From here you pass a small ruined structure called The Orangery which is right beside the entrance to the main and the secondary school built on the site of Heywood House (lucky kids to have a path to a Lutyen's from their school yard!!!) The is pretty epic, built on a prominent hill overlooking the river. They are quite compact and very well preserved. The highlight for us was the circular walled section with the pool and fountain. A very nice place to sit and take in the views of the surrounding countryside which is spectacular. If you fancy a longer stroll, there is a 6km circuit. If you have small kids like us you can take the forest path up to the garden, but come back via the river to the car park We had a lovely experience visiting Heywood, it’s about a half hour drive from Kilkenny. Really easy [about an hour] to visit the gardens and see the river and some of the old castle grounds. Suitable for most fitness levels. The Lutyens is a beautiful hidden gem just outside Abbeyleix. There's free parking and a short uphill to the Very nice place for an afternoon or for a picnic. Ruins of castle with beautiful views, well kept gardens, lovely parks, woodland and lake. Worth to visit it. Big parking at the entrance, toilets, notice boards showing interesting history of the place. One of the most beautiful places I've ever been. Gorgeous views and walks. Super well maintained. Lovely bits and pieces dotted around everywhere. Gothic relics and well maintained walkways through out the whole area. A class sham castle also which you can take a break at and look over the awesome valley. Wonderful out from Ballinakill to the gardens along lovely wooded lanes. Passed the fishermen on the lake and with the soundtrack of kids' whoops of delight from the village's outdoor pool. Really great place to visit. Plenty of parking and it's free. Much better than a lot of places I've paid to get into Website change monitoring Monitor any webpage for changes – get instant email alerts when prices drop, new jobs are posted, products come back in stock, or competitors update their sites.
