When booking I was tempted to skip the vivarium as I thought it'd be tedious but I am so glad I didn't. The exhibition explained how the caves were formed, how life survives inside and what life there is, including 150 species identified so far. The star was the olm, a sort of albino lizard with no eyes that has adapted to life in the dark and lives for up to 100 years. Don't skip! It is just a few metres from the main cave. Go to see the olm and some other interesting species Lovely small aquarium or mini zoo with some examples of the insects and animals living in the caves… the temperature is 10 degrees or below. You are not allow to take photos with flash disturbs the little creatures. Is very dark in there and wet. Bring some trainers with grip … you can see there the little dragan or better know as salamander you must pay for this attraction…. The place is very small but interesting Good to visit if you buy a combined ticket for the and castle anyway. You can pay for a little bit more to have this. But inside things to see are limited. Inside space is very limited, so it will become uncomfortable when people keep entering. Should have been a control over the inflow. If you're not a fan of fauna, Vivarium might not appeal to you, especially since its main attraction - the olm - can also be seen in an aquarium during the Postojna tour. However, if you decide to visit, perhaps taking advantage of the discounted admission as part of a combo ticket with the caves and the Predjama Castle, you'll experience a half-hour tour of a that once served as a research laboratory. In the cave, you can observe local fauna in terrariums and aquariums. Unfortunatelly, many of the creatures are so tiny that they're difficult to spot. Be prepared for the cave's temperature, which is around 10°C. The entire exhibit is very well done, with informative panels and an audio guide available in multiple languages, which I particularly appreciated. While being a small exposition, it is worth seeing it really. All creatures there are alive, they are just looking dead. 🤣 I hated that there is no anyone to ask something. And I had a hard time (as a couple of us there) to figure out where the audio guide point numbers are! You can see a larger proteus here than the ones at the end of the tour, and also some other interesting ALIVE creatures. Absolute waste of time. Overcrowded small with a few animal enclosures but the animals are so small and prefer darkness so you can barely see them if at all. Don’t waste your money on this stop. Just do the actual tour and castle visit. Absolutely worth a visit if you buy the combined ticket with the cave, especially if you’re an animal lover. The exhibition is really interesting, with various aquariums showing animals from the — special mention for the Proteus! — which you can’t see anywhere else. Audioguide is part of the ticket.
