The cafe and facilities are wonderful with a gift shop, but more, including literature, take away history and of course treasures for any occasion. The restaurant was fully booked for lunch so check that if you intend to take a table for a meal otherwise healthy choices were back at the cafe. A blowing demonstration captivated us for some time. Seeing a small team work together in an open workshop creating maybe a masterpiece is exciting as much as it is an opportunity to realise the effort and energy that goes into blowing. Maybe one of nice places for art in old factories. But not sure it is valuable for the cost of parking fee (40 kr) and enterance fee.(150 kr) in remoted place. But beautiful scenery made me comfortable. Loved the presentation of Picasso’s pieces inside glasses. Fun museum, not too big, all can be seen in 2h. There are shows to see people blowing every hour A lot of interesting pieces but I felt there was something missing in the presentation... I couldn't say there was anything particularly outstanding. Perhaps they are trying to present too many artifacts. The place was fantastic, especially the place where you can make a Christmas decor.. My kids love it, but the lady working in that place where they can choose colors for the balls she wasn’t very nice.. Asked my kids to leave the line because she thought they didn’t buy anything, we explained to her again in again that my husband was holding the box and my husband even showed her.. She was just super annoyed 😒 it’s supposed to be a place where the kids could enjoy it but she ruined it gladly the two guys making the Christmas balls 101% make it good again.. Please don’t put a Karen and stressed person in that place again next year.. She ruined the vibes of the place.. and we all speak danish in case you guys are wondering if it was language problem my husband is danish.. I’d like to be more positive but I think holmegaard has more to do to make this old works sing again. Maybe because it was a wet October day but nothing appeared open outside of the main building and inside it was very cold, apart from the overpriced gift shop that did nothing to promote the history and legacy of one of the great manufacturers. The history of holmegaard and kahler side by side was interesting apart from people picking up exhibits! and a continuous droning message and alarm telling people to keep their arms away from the items, no staff there to invigilate. The blowing was kind of interesting but given the pedigree of the blowers it was sunrising to see such simple pieces being blown so repetitively. We went with the intention to see the displays, perhaps seeing unique art work by individual artists and making a custom handprint in glass. We ended up making our own sandblasted glasses and that was super fun even with small (or big) kids. There are limited carpark space close to the entrance and a 'tourist' carpark which is a bit of a walk away. There was no sign pointing towards the closest carpark but good to know if you have company who appreciate short distance to entrance. We had to asked at the information to get ticket, there were no clear signs that tickets are needed. and there were also no indication where to start the tour, we had to trace the numbers on the floor. Also, remember to bring your own headset if you want to have audio guide. One of the young staff at atelier (where we can make our own etc) sit amongst the visitors and had we not been really determined to make the diy glasses, we would have left. Tips: they wear black poloT uniform, just not so obvious to my untrained eyes. The exhibits are fine, but not really anything to shout about. Workshop staffs are friendly and informative. Generally it's a place with many potential that can be better. I recommend the place but there's certainly still room for improvement. Great place to visit, interesting exhibitions! Always something for the kids to have fun with, the sandblasted is very fun to do. Expect to use a few hours there to enjoy the work of the blowers.
