The most amazing experience at the farm! I only wish I had more time to photograph in their natural environment while they were running on their own and playing. Farm has beautiful Icelandic Horses! They bake on the farm using geothermal feature and if you visit you get to taste and coffee , super delicious! Restrooms are available for public use on the farm. It was an incredibly enjoyable experience! The family was incredibly welcoming and accommodating throughout the trip. Our guide was exceptionally knowledgeable and shared fascinating insights about the local area and the farm. They made sure we felt comfortable and at ease with the and the process of getting on. The were beautiful and incredibly gentle. I highly recommend this activity, and I would definitely do it again. To top it off, there was a homemade treat at the end! We stopped by for stable visit- did not need reservations to a visit, only if you wanted to ride. The girl from Germany is who was with us and she was wonderful. We were the only two on-site (we got there at 10am)- tour buses don't usually come through til noon or after. We went into a small theater room where she previewed a few videos to give a little more information about Icelandic in general and also their horses. Maybe 5-10 minutes of video with her talking as well. The stable visit was pretty fun! We got to pet and feed some of the horses- there were about 10 we had access to. We could take our time- there was no rush and we ended up spending about an hour here all together. There is a geothermal heating system on site and this is how they make underground. She showed us where it was done and we even got to try some- it was pretty great! We also got to pick coffee or hot chocolate as well. Great experience and wonderful staff. seem to be very well taken care! Sturlureykir Horse Farm is a must-visit! The staff are warm and welcoming, and the Icelandic are well cared for and friendly. Interacting with them was such a relaxing and memorable experience. The beautiful surroundings make it even more magical. Highly recommend for a true taste of Icelandic culture! So fun! What a fun little stop while traveling around Iceland! We just visited, and didn't but I believe they do that too. We learned about what makes Icelandic special, got to visit the stables and feed them, take pics and try the delicious rye that is baked in the earth at the farms geothermal hot spring! We loved our at this horse farm! Our guide was fantastic and the were friendly and easy to ride. We stopped in when they opened and were able to get in immediately but they recommend reservations. The lasted about an hour through very beautiful countryside including viewing a natural hot spring in the river. I would highly suggest you add this to your trip to the Reykholt/Husafell area! Had an amazing time at Sturlureykir! Our guide Esther was friendly, knowledgeable, patient and one with the horses. The tour is good for beginners and experienced riders. We were treated to homemade Icelandic rye and hot cocoa after the horse tour. Thank you for the whimsical experience! A must if you're visiting the region. The owners are extremely nice, you get the chance to see, feed and pet beautiful Icelandic and, last but not least, a cup of hot chocolate with the most delicious rye we've ever tasted.
