☺️🍀 A 30 minute train ride (from Bern) and 25 minute walk will take you to this very special place. Great day hike kind of thing. Great place to have lunch. Nice hike down from the ruins to the river too. Lovely walks in the area and around the castle! Lots of space to explore the old ruins! There are places for picnics and lighting a fire. Accessible via public transport from both Lanzenhäusern (30mins walk) or Schwarzenburg (45mins). Regular trains to Bern. Visite gratuite.👍 Beautiful and so relaxing Nice place, but unfortunately the Castle was in renovations when we visited it. The path from the parking to the castle is perfectly maintained, but keep in mind that the gradient is very deep. Also there are a bunch of stairs, so plan your visit carefully if you are with kids or elderly people. Very short hike but amazing castle. Very interesting and cool for kids, I guess. Probably beautiful but might be crowded in summertime. Information about the castle at the entrance. No entrance fee for the ruins. Reaching by car is easier than public transport. Recommended good hiking shoes as roads are sloppy. One can plan for grill and picknick, but no drinking water and toilets nearby. Good place to hike with kids. Prams and wheelchair is not accessible. 1. Nice ruins to climb 2. Closest parking to the FKK/naturist Sense beach 3. Swiss level of security (=0, all own fault) 4. Good views around, tranquile place. Take good gear if u wanna go up If you like ruins of castles, this won't disappoint you. But beware: on Google maps it said that the path there was mostly even. That is utter nonsense. You will walk down a very steep path with gravel, be careful. Then, you will walk up very long stairs to the castle. There are two main parts to behold. For me, most intriguing is that until the 1570s, this now remote and seemingly insignificant place was the political and judicial center of the region. Something truly hard to grasp nowadays. A hidden ruin in a very steep path . When you reach the ruin, you can only watch from the exterior side through some lookouts . There is a picnic area . I have seen family taken their snacks. For myself and limited physical ability, I found great efforts to climb back to the adjacent small free car park. Anyway, it is worth visiting based on your interest and ability to hike in a very steep trail . Lieu magnifique, paysage incroyable. Easily accessible by car or public transport. It does take some physical effort to explore, but that's what makes it fun. Great little place! Not far from car park, or longer walks available. It is very refreshing to see a ruin that isn't fenced off. You can climb up onto the old walls and look out over the river and forest. There is a nice clearing and a few stops for fires too. Very beautiful place. A bit difficult to get to with public transportation, but there is a parking lot nearby. You better bring your own water because there isn't a fountain nearby (that I have seen at least). Its currently (2023) under renovations and thus you can't really get the full experience.
