One of the oldest in Europe. The tour inside is well commented (audio-guide), shared between the monastic life of the sisters and the medical offering of the (beds, pharmacy, surgery items...) As well as it's (the ran till the mid of 20th century!) Great visit. A lot of stuff to see. Take your time for this museum. Guess the is best visited during summer. And you can have a nice drink on the terrace nextdoor near the fountain. Our Tour Guide was excellent. The lobby and restaurant are very nice and clean. The is beautiful, with it's intricate landscaping. The Hospitality was overflowing. The history, attention to details on the displays is impressive. There's so much to capture. Our Historian captured every detail in this Historical Hospital. The made a tremendous impact in the Commune of Lessines, Belgium. Well done. Highly recommend! Visiting the de Notre Dame Lessines is like stepping into a time machine, whisking you back to the medieval era. This magnificent hospital-convent is a treasure trove of history, where the pest doctor mode is not just a costume but a full-on experience. The knowledge shared about the intersection of medicine and is nothing short of enlightening, delivered in an authentic setting that feels untouched by time. The garden, open for all to explore, is a delightful bonus. They even house poisonous plants. Picture yourself wandering among herbs and enjoying stunning views that make you forget the town of Lessines itself isn’t exactly a tourist hotspot. While the town may not be worth your time, this gem certainly is. If you’re a buff or just someone who appreciates a good story, this place is well worth a visit! Unfortunately it was raining that day but that didn't stop us from enjoying the covered and heated terrace after the museum visit! Also saw the herbal for the pharmacy, learned so much about poisonous plants haha. Absolutely worth it! Very old that was running from the 13th century became a museum in the second half of the 20th century. Old times the cure for human soul was even more important than cure for the body. As time went by you can see the development of medicine over several centurys. The collection of old instruments is a bit creepy and makes you feel happy that you didn't have to be a patient old times. Wonderful tour with the local Flemish guide who narrated to the with much passion, wit and detail. Recommend taking the guided tour over the audio guide. Compelling story on a historically uniquely preserved place. As a new resident to Lessines, I was given tickets to visit the museum. The museum also sent a letter to new residents to go collect a welcome gift of books and postcards based on the hospital. Staff were all very welcoming and congratulatory. Audio guide was available in English. I particularly loved the medicinal garden, though it was winding down for the winter. I will definitely make another visit the the during spring and summer as it was an ideal place to study plants, with everything clearly labelled and informative, in French.
