Great for the kids! Parking is £3 a car wasn't being enforced on our visit. Small play by the car and a much larger one down behind the country house. Little there does food and sells drinks and ice creams to go as well. On Sundays in the summer, when the weather is good then miniature railways runs - £2 per adult £1 per child - card or cash. Excellent on a warm summer day! Lovely park Very confusing re parking and churches etc ??? Lovely with forest walks of varying length and with activities for kids. Ponds, meadows and forests. Gently and harder walks. Barbecue sites available. Nice cafe. Hosts runs, music festivals etc Very relaxing to round, quite a few different country walks all marked so easy to follow. Couple of excellent play areas so are well entertained and a mini railway. The country house is also very attractive. Nice and quiet country park. Very easy to reach by car, 10 minutes drive from city bypass. Car available. Usually they charge 2 pounds but today Sunday was free. Ideal for a relaxing walking with children and dogs. All tracks are easy to walk. Wild nature all around and perfectly managed green parks. Lots of bbq areas Ideal when summer comes. A lovely place to dogs or take children, plenty bins along well kept gravel paths. Plenty to see, forestry, ponds, wild flowers, historic home. I look forward to returning Lovely walks with various sculptural items around the place. There's a golf course, a miniature railway and a massive play park, with a wee area as well as stuff for bigger primary-school aged kids. There's a decent at the big house too. Big car reflects how many folk go there which now costs £2 and is paid at a machine as you leave. They prefer cash for this! We were at a specific event on this occasion, all laid on for free by Midlothian Council. It really was a terrific afternoon with lots of good choices and things to do. The were all kept entertained, which is increasingly difficult as they get older, wherever screens aren’t involved! I’ve attended similar events where we’ve paid £30 per person, so a huge thanks to the Council for this. Aside from all that, it’s a great place to visit at any other time, with lots of green space to explore and a fun play park. Lovely in the well maintained grounds. Properly dog friendly and cafe. The lovely up at the house needs better sign posting from main car though.. more promotion might bring more customers! 🤔.. it was our 1st visit today and we were unsure where to go. But we will be back! Great place to spend a day and so much nature to appreciate Beautiful country park, lots of parking, toilets, cafe, lots of picnic benches. They have redeveloped a former golf course into wild flower meadows. No flowers as yet as visited in May, will return in August. Good display of bluebells in the woods Been coming here since i was a now take my kids, beautiful grounds ideal for a nice in the summer or bbq (they have areas for that) parking, 2 parks and the pond. And the Manor House is sometimes open in summer to grab a bite to eat. The model railway was running when we went for a walk. Doesn't matter how old you are getting to sit on the train it's fantastic! Made the day even better. Then visited the for a play and then the pond to see the tadpoles. Nice for a and had a good time with family and friends. Beautiful large open grounds, excellent adventure with lots to keep busy. Even on a windy day the adventure is quite well sheltered by plenty of large trees. Going on a Sunday allows the opportunity to have a ride on the miniature railway which is fantastic. Even the toilet facilities were very clean which is nice to see. If you bring a picnic it’s an incredibly adorable day out. Absolutely love this place. Fabulous peaceful woodland walks and a great dog friendly cafe. Bring £3 in coins if you can, as the card payment system to get out of the car is really slow.
