Strážky Chateau is a hidden gem in eastern Slovakia, blending history, art, and serene natural beauty. Originally built on the site of a medieval monastery, it was transformed into a Renaissance manor in the late 16th century. The castle later became home to Hungarian painter Ladislav Mednyánszky, whose atmospheric works are now exhibited inside. Managed by the Slovak National Gallery, the interior showcases historical furniture, a rich library, and beautiful paintings. The surrounding English-style by the river offers a peaceful retreat. With guided tours and well-preserved architecture, Strážky Chateau is a perfect cultural stop for history and art lovers alike. Recently l visited here with my family and we found the chateau, Gardens and the Art work very interesting both within the chateau/ gardens. The garden surrounding the chateau is beautiful and is a nice place to have a picnic. Je to nádherný, zachovalý kaštieľ. Rodinné vstupné 7 eur. Ak si chcete fotiť, tak doplatok 2 eurá. Vstup je so sprievodcom, každú hodinu. Obhliadka trvá približne 45 minút. Je to hlavne obrazaren, ale človek sa dozvie aj k histórii kaštieľa a okolia. Krásny kaštieľ so zaujímavou históriou.Veľmi ma zaujali obrazy L.Medňanského,ktorých je tam veľa,keďže ich autor veľkú časť života prežil v tomto kaštieli. This is one of the best galery i ever have seen here in Slovakia. The guide is giving you o lot of information about history in very nice speache. I love art! I enjoyed myself a lot! It is a collection of Slovak art mainly from Ladislav Medñansky and also you will find other unknown or less known painters. You may see the furniture from the 18th, 19th century. Also loversof coffee enjoy the coffee with very nice cakes. The prices for the cakes are unbelievably cheap! You may ask for tea and also beer. Unfortunately, pictures of the drinks and cakes were not possible to take, all disappeared very quickly. Renesančný kaštieľ, patrí po SNG na vstupe od Kežmarku situovaný v krásnom parku anglického typu, venuje sa tvorbe maliara Medňanského, komentovania prehliadka, ,na nádvorí kaviareň, dá sa tam platiť kartou, aj vstup do galérie je možné platiť kartou, slabšie označenie parkoviska kaštieľa,treba od neho prejsť parkom asi 250 metrov We weren’t inside, so we can’t comment that, but from the outside it is nice looking manor next to the road. Nearby is a beautiful and huge suitable for a walk or just to relax. A gallery dedicated to Ladislav Mednyánszky (1852-1919) A painter who is known for his landscapes and portraits. Nice place with an aristocratic touch. It's sad to learn what the communist period did to those people. Lovely little place with gorgeous riverside and gardens with free access. Lots of artwork in the park. The little castle itself can be viewed in guided tours: the entry fee is inexpensive and the tour guide is very professional and knowledgeable. You'll learn a lot about the place's history and all the exhibits, including original historical furniture and books, plus a collection of paintings especially by Mednansky. This place is a little gem well worth a visit if you like history or art, or just for a little walk or run in the beautiful park. gallery and museum. Some works and life story of painter L. Mednanysky. You can aslo enjoy beautiful just outside the chateau. Very nice little castle, partly used as museum with collection of paintings from Mednyansky. The other part is used as administration and there are rooms that can be rented for stay.
