Old but very well maintained. Went here just for Hollweg nearby. The stable now is becaming cafe Quite a stunning structure. There is a restaurant inside which sells good food and drinks. An interesting medieval castle, it also contains exhibitions about hunting and forestry in the area. Located approx 20 min by car west of Arnhem and on the bank of the river Rhine, Doorwerth is worth a visit. Ample free car parking only about 5 minutes from the castles entrance. The castles rich history covers more than 700 years. Once inside the castle, the route is well marked and easy to follow. The rooms are well laid out, covering a wealth of information, covering military, social history, and nature, and make sure you the art display. Not suitable for wheelchair and people with walking disabilities as you have to navigate the route up and down many narrow and uneven stone stairs. The small cafe serves some very tasty cakes. If you intend to have a meal, make sure you acquire a menu while queuing as you will find no list of food at the counter. If you have time, make sure you take the short detour to the river Rhine. Fun for the kids, they get to dress up and around the castle.. and they can try on the armour. There was a scavenger hunt for them. Very well marked and easy to navigate. Some stairs but railings to hold on and safe. very medieval castle. lots of joy visiting objects and you can dress up if you want. had a very meal and awesome coffee. A very experience with the surrounding paths and the tour. The history is of course the most interesting part and how the has been part of history. You can get a laminated guide “book” in English, which was immensely helpful. The “privy” back in the day was not very private, but I guess very convenient to have it in the living room. Take a detour and check it out and have a walk. This is a charming spot to visit! We enjoyed a lovely picnic outdoors, soaking up the summer weather. There's also a museum to explore, and the surrounding area is one of the greenest in the Netherlands. Plus, it's pet-friendly, which is a great bonus! A nicely well maintained and landscape, lots of things to see. U can even try on some of the shields/weapons. There’s a kitchen garden with all the labels on the plants/herbs. Can be interesting to for children too. I love this castle. Even thought it's probably not the most beautiful in the region but it has it's vibe and it's very educational. I would love to come back when my son is older so he could enjoy it more. I would recommend to especially if you have a museum card. P.S. There is a very beautiful forest near by with very tracking possibilities. Captivating surrounding, especially in Autumn. With a ticket, one can go in and watch all the rooms. Not a very huge castle. But a experience. Public Transport does not take one to the castle's gate so you need to a certain distance to reach it, or via your own vehicle. Beautiful old plenty to look at in the rooms. Gardens and lots of ways around the area. Can get in on national trust card or museum pass. Lovely cafe but very expensive. Recommend a A wonderful outside very beautiful inside is also nice. My wife has chronicql fatique. And they have folding chairs. We coult take them with us so my wife could sit in a room and look arround and rest the same time. Employees where very and took good care for us.
