The well-marked trails made navigation easy, ensuring we stayed on the right paths while respecting the protected areas. A Full of Wildlife 🐂 Bulls & Cows – We encountered different types of cattle, some lazily grazing while others curiously watched us. 🦅 Everywhere – We spotted kestrels hovering above and little egrets near the wetlands. 🌿 Scenic Wetlands – The views over the Rogerstown Estuary were breathtaking, offering a real sense of connection with nature. 🌸 Wildflowers & Butterflies – The vibrant colors of seasonal blooms added beauty to the landscape. 🌳 Woodland Wildlife – Rustling in the hedgerows revealed hidden creatures like rabbits and hedgehogs. A Relaxing Trail for All 🚶‍♂️ Flat and easy to walk, the paths were perfect for a leisurely stroll. 🌞 A mix of sun and shade, making it enjoyable in any weather. A picturesque and peaceful spot, but unfortunately, like many places in Ireland, it feels somewhat neglected. There are no benches to sit and rest, no bins for litter, and on a hot day, there’s little to see or do. With some care and attention, it could be a much more enjoyable destination. What kind of 😠😠😠 came up with that entrance — you can’t get in with a stroller or a bike. Beautiful place to spend your weekend. There are two routes, one that takes about half and hour and another one that takes an hour and has bird watching. It has some benches along the way. Car park is not too busy but note that there are no toilets or any place to have coffee. Amazing place to and clear your mind . Even cycling is a good option , but be aware of the potholes ... There's a bull to be seen , cows , sheeps , watch crib , etc . There are no hills or anything . Have fun and stay safe people ! On this rainy fall day we were lucky enough to be in the company of experts Daniel and Tom, whom we met at the birdwatching station. They told us so many interesting facts about the behavior, migration and characteristics of different birds, as well as observing them with professional optics. One is a loop of about 1 k and the second one is more a nature with places to watch Great spot for birdwatching!! Depending on the time of year you can see lots of migratory summer warblers and winter waders, I've been lucky enough to add a few lifers to my list at this very reserve. The main hide really nice and peaceful but there are a number of others dotted around the reserve. Nice and easy flat with lots of benches to rest. Two walking trails are available. No fee for car parking. Indeed, home to many breeding and ducks/ swans in the lake. The volunteers in the hides who explain the different are great. October -February seem best to see migrant Nice place for a walk, wildlife is very quiet in summer. Dogs roam off leads despite the signs that it is a nature reserve. No facilities nor wheelchair access. Wonderful place and appreciate the protected reserve for birds. I would give 5 stars if cars are not allowed inside the walking trail. It's really uncomfortable for people who go by around the trail and also the vehicle sounds may disturb the species living there.
