We had missed the car during our last two visit to Guimarães as it was under maintenance. This time we we’re lucky and upon reaching we found there was no queue. The staff very helpfully let us board and took a photograph which was made available to us on payment along with a historical booklet of Guimarães. The journey itself was very enjoyable. Reasonably priced at Euro 7.50 for return journey per person. It was a pleasant journey since we visited off season and there were not many people there. The view was not particular beautiful or anything and it’s a bit strange to sit in a car above some people’s house. The church and the park on the peak were peaceful though. 10 eur for the round trip, definitely worth it. The views during the ride and at the top are amazing. I only wish they installed some kiosks to sell tickets, because the line can stuck sometimes as there is only one counter. car Type: public transport Price: 5/10 EUR (one way / +back) Path for disabled: not available Car parking: available Bike parking: available Distance: 1.7 km (400m up) Time spent: 10 min This car is located close to the centre and connects it to the Penha mountain. You can enjoy the panoramic view of Guimarães via your window, including the Castle, the Palace, churches and other notable places of the city. Penha mountain has nice viewpoints of the city, several caves, a large park, a chapel, a monument of Papa Pio IX, and a church (Santuário da Penha). Only €10 to go up and down. A real bargain and great views of the below. Also, at the top of the hill, it is very beautiful. They need to purchase new cars because the glass has scratches. It was hard to see the view It's a beautiful view from the entire city. If you go alone I recommend to do both ways with the lift. I planned to make it by walking down town, however there's a few bizarre fellows around. It's a great place to take pictures So nice! Worth the trip! Beautiful view of the and lots of picnic tables. We went up on the car around 3pm purchased a round trip ticket. Last car coming down was supposed to be 5:15pm we got there 5 mins before hand to go back down and was told they are closed and needed to take a taxi to go down. Thinking we were late but there were already a long line of people waiting for taxis before us. So guess they closed a lot earlier without telling anyone. there were a long line of people before us. The sun was going down fast and family with little kids had to find their way to get down the mountain. The workers had no concern for the public and little kids safety at all. Ticket way and back for adults is 7,50€. The car (teleferico or funicular) is located almost 10 Min by walking from the center. It has free toilets you can also load your bicycle on the wagons. Great journey to the top of the mountain, €7.50 return. Dog friendly too & also takes bikes. Views from the top are amazing! Huge boulder formations, pretty church, park, several cafe/restaurants up there too. Def not to be missed if visiting Guimaraes!👍🏻 It costs 10 euros per adult, while for residents it costs only 1.50 euros. If the city's proposal is to attract tourists, it didn't seem very fair to me, especially since you can drive up the hill and park right next to the church. Visited at 17:15. We had literally 25 minutes to get up and down again. Amazing views both ways, plan better than us to stay a couple of hours at the top and wander the hillside gardens A quick rise to the top of the hill offers you a fantastic viewpoint to this historical and enchanting of Guimaraes. A beautiful and highly recommended experience! The car ride is calm, safe, and offers stunning views of Guimarães and the surrounding nature. At the top, the Penha Sanctuary is a magical place to walk around, relax, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Perfect for photos and a peaceful moment in nature. It’s best to go early or on a weekday to avoid queues.
