În fața teatrului (spre sud) se află bustul lui Ede Szigligeti, dramaturg maghiar din secolul XIX născut la Oradea. Teatrul de Stat este compus din două instituții teatrale: Teatrul Regina Maria și Teatrul Szigligeti. Frumoasa clădire a fost construită în stil ecletic într-un timp rapid (iulie 1899 - octombrie 1900) de către arhitectul Kálmán Rimanóczy pentru a întregi o veche tradiție teatrală a orașului. Teatrul Regina Maria din Oradea este o bijuterie arhitecturală și culturală, construit între anii 1899–1900 după planurile celebrei firme Fellner & Helmer. Clădirea impresionează prin fațada neoclasică cu coloane impunătoare și statuile muzelor Thalia și Melpomene, iar interiorul său, decorat în stil neo-rococo, creează o atmosferă elegantă și rafinată. Sala de spectacole are o acustică excelentă și o capacitate de aproximativ 570 de locuri. Inaugurat cu spectacole maghiare, teatrul a găzduit din 1927 și reprezentații românești, devenind un important centru cultural. O cladire de teatru foarte frumoasa, atat in interior, cat si in exterior, am luat bilete mai mult pt a l vedea si pe dinauntru. Piesa vizionata nu a excelat, din punctul meu de vedere motivul a fost ca efectiv nu se potrivea eleganta acestei locatii (arhitectura, loje, etc) cu limbajul folosit de catre actori..... putin dezamagitor ca prestatie...
