We rented a boat and floated about 17km of the river. The arrangement was good, the price was acceptable, the boat was of good quality. What is a problem, however, are the locals who also float the river. Every other group of boats was under the vlime of varnish, very noisy, and it was not uncommon for people on the boat to have a loud speaker playing the local horrible music to the whole valley. All this in a national park. Latvia should decide what it wants to do - preserve nature or extract money from tourists regardless of the consequences. An otherwise nice river trip was thus spoiled by the behaviour of drunken Latvians. The campsite was pleasantly small and well-priced, and it was quiet at night, with only an annoying noise coming from the nearby disco until the morning. The 1990s ended two decades ago and the Balkans are several thousand kilometres away, such an attitude is unworthy of a civilised nation. I recommend this boat rental. I rented a kayak on spot, but I called before if I can do it this way without booking. I guess they might be actually booked for the weekends and I came on Friday. The rental guy was very nice and spoke English. I took twice as much time to kayak from Cēsis to Līgatne (8 hours instead of 4), but it wasn't a problem (I was alone though, so its kinda understandable haha). The rental guy was already on the designated spot take care of the boat once I arrived to Līgatne. They even let me keep my huge backpack with them in the rental shop so I didn't need to take it to the water. The renatal service included a paddle, a safety vest and a large waterproof bag (I would actually fit my backpack there too). All was super nice and I would like to come and do it again if I have the chance. This is the best camping ever. Lovely service, speaks English. You park where you want, or where is space. It's clean, showers, toilets, laundry room, outside sinks to wash dishes, bins all very looked after. The river is gorgeous, sandy beach and there is play area for kids, loads of nature trails. Rented a Kayak for a daytrip. Equipment was modern and in a good shape. Staff speaks good English. They arranged a pick up service at our accommodation for a little extra, which was super convenient. Thank you. Messaged the number provided via WhatsApp to organize bikes. Very responsive + handled easily! Helmets and a lock were included. We biked around Gaujas for 2.5 hours + had a lovely time! The bikes were in nice condition as well. Thank you! This is supposed to be a quited campground, you even have to sign that you won’t make any noises at night. But guys right next to us were having party and loud music ALL NIGHT and camp staff didn’t do anything about it. Do not recommend if you are looking for some peace and quiet. Very nice, quiet and peaceful place. Good quality, fresh hot food and cold droughts available over weekend. Will definitely come back and will recommend to all friends.
