Well it is a historic place but highlighted only by a poor impression of a Viking ship, a signpost and an information board. The exhibition at Kuressaare castle is obviously far more informative. It's a rather small monument just by the main road, don't expect anything super impressive, but it's interesting to read about around the ships retrieval, and understand the whole historical context. I like the use of concrete and wood, and the minimalistic yet solid shape given to the sculpture. Just a roadside attraction you can see while driving. Nothing to go out of the way for. At the end of this monument is the Salme II marked by stones in the road beside the school. Take a walk 100-200 metres into Salme and visit the Viking Museum which shows all about the archaeological digs for both ships and it has a great video. Ps it’s FREE! or you can leave a donation. The museum was a great find! Ważne miejsce dla historii Estonii. Mnie znane z programu w TV. Not much there but a couple of benches shaped like a ship. Could be so much better. Es gibt eine Infotafel mit vielen Informationen und eine mit Steinen markierten Fundstelle. Ganz OK beim Vorbeifahren, aber kein Extraausflug wert. Smaller than it looks, not worth going, you can see it while driving car. Vieta kur var atzīmēties ka esat bijuši,ir jāzina vēsture par šo vietu, lai rastos priekštats. Was great to see the place of the biggest known Viking ship burial of the world. Be sure to read the informational board to get the facts what was really discovered. Nothing much to see, but it was interesting to read the story behind. The most interesting fact was that the ship was situated in line with Milky Way. It's ok, nothing too time consuming. Just a nice memorial Pats miestelis jaukus, bet šis objektas nėra labai įdomus. I have 2 ancestors that were buried on these ships. It's pretty cool.
