Well it is a historic place but highlighted only by a poor impression of a Viking ship, a signpost and an information board. The exhibition at Kuressaare castle is obviously far more informative. It's a rather small monument just by the main road, don't expect anything super impressive, but it's interesting to read about around the ships retrieval, and understand the whole historical context. I like the use of concrete and wood, and the minimalistic yet solid shape given to the sculpture. Just a roadside attraction you can see while driving. Nothing to go out of the way for. At the end of this monument is the Salme II marked by stones in the road beside the school. Take a walk 100-200 metres into Salme and visit the Viking Museum which shows all about the archaeological digs for both ships and it has a great video. Ps it’s FREE! or you can leave a donation.
