Abbaye Notre-Dame du Vivier

Namur, Belgium Historical landmark

Beautiful place under renovation. Various "Gîtes" have opened, and now the restaurant in a former small church. Great place! And music concerts every week in the former monks restaurant. A beautiful abbey which never fails to inspire me. I am so pleased to see that the restoration advances every time I visit. I have loved this abbey ever since I rented it for a Medieval festival years age and it soothes my soul to see how well it is being cared for. Nice place for a Sunday family walk! It is a nice place with historical tours given during the summer. They have a small farm with several animals and, of course, their own brand of beer, Clem de Castro, named after one the most well known mother superiors of the abbey. A large terrace provides a really pleasant place to enjoy the calm and tranquility of the countryside. Beautiful place to visit on a sunny day Great lunch spot and walk around the gardens. We enjoyed the afternoon there. Food was good and the wine was delicious also. We had originally reserved in l‘Orangerie which offers simple dishes (we did know not that), but since no one came to take our order we decided to go to the other restaurant La Chapelle. We enjoyed the food , wine (Sauvignon blanc) and the profesional service. I can reccomend the ris de veux and tataki. Beautiful complex of buildings with large grounds around it, perfect for a small walk. Abbey itself not accessible, possibly due the renovation work? There is also a restaurant, but we did not eat there.
