The food was great, especially the tuna steak. I had a nice time with my family at this restaurant. Friendly staff and very nice ambience. A must to go place. This place had been on my list to try for quite a while, but unfortunately my visit was very disappointing. When we arrived for our lunch reservation, we were told we could only sit in one specific area on the right side. That section was almost empty, yet when we chose a table for four (even though we were two people), the waiter asked us to move to another table for four because the first one was “reserved.” There was also a constant cold draft throughout our visit, and the restaurant had no heating despite it being mid-November, which made the experience quite uncomfortable. Given the overall setup, the prices felt extremely high. We ordered a fish dish, and about an hour after eating, both of us started feeling unwell and experienced nausea. The most discouraging moment was when we were told we couldn’t sit at a more comfortable table because it was “for four people,” yet a couple who arrived after us was seated there without issue. This really affected how welcome we felt. Overall, this was one of my most disappointing dining experiences in Belgium. I hope the restaurant takes feedback like this seriously, as I noticed other reviews mentioning similar issues. The Gamba's grilled are excellent and for lovers the fillet pure saignent is the best you can get!!! The spare are ok but there could be a bit more on the bone, it's not as tender as it usually is. Some people will like them done on the fire like here and other people will like it more juicy. Our second trip to Den Artiest was just as beautiful as the first, it’s dog friendly which is a must for us, but they are actually very friendly and offer water for him. We sat upstairs and the restaurant is so beautifully decorated. The menu is small and simple but they do it all so well! Basically or fish on a grill served with potatoes, frites or salad. Can’t go wrong! The are excellent! Nice place to visit if near Klein Strand in Ostend. Limited choice, but all cooked well, we had and Steak as well as a simple Croquette starter, all excellent, a great end to a long weekend at the coast. We didn’t have a reservation but were fortunate to get a table—at first, we thought we were lucky. Unfortunately, the experience quickly turned into a disappointment. My husband never leaves food on his plate, no matter how full he is—but this time was different. I ordered the steak, which was actually quite good. However, he ordered the ribs, and they came out half-cooked. When we raised our concern, the waitress casually said, “That’s how they’re usually served.” For the price we paid, we definitely expected better quality and service. Sadly, we won’t be coming back. I wast expecting the food to be this good. I had bbq prawns as a starter. Best I've had. Mixed grill for main and every mouthful was better than the last. Fantastic restaurant. Really enjoyed the atmosphere in this place. The steak is unbelievable. Really friendly and attentive staff. Really beautiful building. Would also recommend the Irish coffee. Superb :) First impression was very because the place is very nicely decorated and the service is also very good. We ordered two soup of the day as starter and two dishes for main course. The starter was very nice. I ordered the giant and eating them resulted in a bad night of sickness. Even as I write this review I am sick in my hotel room. I made a mistake to eat and not to complain because it immediately showed that something was wrong. They seemed over-cooked on the outside, somehow very hard to cut and not well cooked on the inside with some parts even showing what seemed like raw or almost raw meat. Looks like a run of the mill bar on the surface. We had a couple of great beers at the counter outside first night and not complaints. We went back for a lateish dinner - lots of places in Oostende close earlyish. This time we went upstairs to eat. The room reminded me of one of Amsterdam's old bruine cafes. Comfortable and roomy. I'll be honest, we weren't expecting *much* of the food, although the wood oven downstairs promised something good. The food is caveman stuff - at least what we ate. The mixed grill was a thing of beauty - meguez, picanha, lamb and more, all cooked to perfection. I had the ribs. Best I've ever had I think. Dry rubbed instead of bathed in a sweet 'barbecue' sauce, they were genuinely meaty and juicy and absolutely full of flavour. The fries were just 'vlamsch standaard' - that is excellent. More lovely beers and we stumbled back to De Ploate - just meters away. Service was brilliant all round, but a special shout out to our server for dinner whose English was outstanding and who couldn't have been more helpful. I really enjoyed my meal here, my Father recommended this to us, I had the mix grill. Will definitely dine here again The food was amazing and delicious, the atmosphere was too even though they were playing the three same songs. All though the concept is well and the staff is kind, I’ve got one question: what is the purpose of having four staff members? When they all go at the same time outside to yap and hit their nicotine. The worst of all is that they were also vaping behind the bar which is located next to kitchen and the flame grill, Disgusting! Don’t have lunch before you visit here in the evening. Great taste and massive portions Amazing…the was amazing… the host was amazing… the ambiance-amazing… A beautiful place for relaxing. The savour of (btw, high quality meat) on the fire and the music -that’s a wonderful tandem that leaves you with million thoughts and trust me… you do not want to miss it! We had the kids and the host suggested the best option for them from the menu. So kind! Clean premises. Not to crowded. Music not to loud. Great spare and steak, beer and wine. Nice staff... highly recommended...
