I continued up the road and about a mile up, turn left to a paid car park and signposted, but its free and no pay machines and plenty spaces - from here its signposted for the trails and the lake view. This has got to be one of the best treks a person can wish for on a bright sunny day. There are many paths one can take i.e. the ones recommended by the maps on site and then the trails made by people who want to explore more. I personally did both of them. I started with the Chew road and climbed up to the top of the peak. Spent sometime with family on the above talking, eating, and listening to music while the cold breeze blew all around me on a hot sunny day. Then we started traveling through the trail and went peak to peak to be on the other side of the - a total of 8 km. At the end we climbed down the hill with others feeling tired but completely fulfilled. I recommend you to go for this kind of trek with friends and family but if you are in relax mode with your young ones then prefer staying on the recommended paths by the authority. That'll give you a different kind of experience with more mental rejuvenation and less physical stress. We had an amazing here [ approx 8 miles ]. It was hard work as we walked up the path to the top [ Chew ] and onto the moorland. It was a bit squashy and muddy at the top but the views were amazing. We followed the path going left of the and over the moorland which takes you along the edge to come down to Dovestone eventually joining the path which encircles the water. There are short walks here around the reservoirs of around 2.6 miles also. is busy but we did find a space fairly quickly. There is a charge of £4.70 for all day [free for rspb members] and less if you want a shorter stop. There are toilets but these close around sometime before 5. There is an icecream van which also sells some hot food . I would suggest this is a medium terrain and requires adequate footwear. Dovestone is absolutely stunning! Husband had his mobility scooter, had a little difficulty getting through the gates. How lovely some young strong people helped us. It is a little bumpy for a rider. But we had lovely weather. The carpark is great, the place is so popular, it fills fast. Great to have an ice cream truck, and toilets. Stopped for a picnic. I like it there This place is very popular and excellent for a stroll around the resavoir. It's very dog and child friendly. The carpark is a decent size, but due to the resavoirs popularity it fills up quickly. It is paid parking, so if you're off walking, make sure you have put plenty time on your ticket. There's also public toilets. Would definitely recommend and will be going back. Perfect for 3 spaniels... we walked 6.8km around the from the carpark. If you would like to see the outstanding view you have to went top of the mountain. The place can be a bit overcrowded on the weekend with limited space to park, but other than that it is amazing place and a must to visit if you love nature.
