Teatar je prvobitno osnovan 29. juna 1850, ali aktuelna zgrada je podignuta između 1969. i 1973. godine, uz svečano otvaranje održano 21. aprila 1973 . Projektovao ju je arhitekta Alexandru Iotzu, a inspiraciju nalazi u modernoj arhitekturi: slojeviti volumen u vidu terasa, izražena horizontala i vitraži koje unose svjetlost . The building is old and need urgent improvement. However when it comes to culture this is the main center of the city, so you might wanna buy at least one ticket "Marin Sorescu" National Theatre (TNC) is maybe the only modern building in the entire city of Craiova in terms of architecture innovation. Alexandru Iotzu created a modern design (brutalist) for the building which had to foster the theatre. The functional plan of the building is impeccable with almost no mistake. The lobbies are perfectly sized and well executed. The big theatre hall has a balcony at +6 meters height and even the secondary theatre room has its lobby and relaxation spaces for people. The surrounding public space was very well designed too. The only bad thing is the theatre's park which was transformed in 2014 in an underground parking. The design firm who managed the parking area did a very bad job, managing to break almost every architectural detail of that space. Spun asta pentru că treptele care sunt spre parculet și spre zona de parcare ,pavajul din piatra desprinse , resturi de pavaj și mortar stau grămadă. Deasemenea parcul vis-a-vis de teatru, cel situat deasupra parcării , merita mai multa atenție, mai multe flori și arbusti ornamentali și deasemenea mai multa curățenie. One of the greatest building in Craiova hosts events, conferences, fairs and exhibitions and is the place to watch the best theatre in town. A real gem. One of the best theatres in Romania with a long tradition. Offers a wide number of spectacles put in scene by some of the finest artists there are. On a monthly basis it host events such as fairs, gaudeamus book festival, movie festivals, conferences, etc. They have a good variety of plays and the actors are great, definitely recommend seeing a play there it s fine and very masive The security is not nice with you. All is dirty and mudy and they dont even clean it if the security sees you are drinking something they will just force you to give them what you drinked for exemple i drinked some water and the security just got the bottle off my hands and throw it at trash! This is unbeliveble! A vibrant repertoire and amazing staff! Being the only major theater in the city makes it the default choice for any big play to take place in. On the bright side, you only need to check one calendar for all the plays. If you also want an authentic old theater atmosphere you're in luck. The seats haven't been changed in at least two decades and are probably older than that.
