Take a wonderful excursion to this old along the river Limmat. At the time (mid May 2020) it was restaurant service only. Now the self service section is open but the other day it only opened after 2pm (probably due to sharing cooks / kitchen staff...) Very pretty and perfect for a little city escape over the weekend! Beauty of nature and history just a short train ride (or hike!) outside of Zurich city! It’s in the north of Zurich along the Limmat river, the women’s Fahr, a Benedictine convent dating back to the 12th century. A 9.5km serene and flat walk following the Limmat river or a 9-minute train ride from Zurich Main Station to Schlieren. From there, a 24-minute easy and flat walk - take the boat ferry across on Sundays free of charge, tips welcome. Quite rural place. Real functioning with own winery. Housing is real late medieval. Old close to the river. Has plenty of tables in the shade for picnicking (brought or bought at the take away restaurant). A nice 45min trip by the bike alongside the river from the city. (Bikes can be rented for free from 'Zurich Rollt' close to HB).
