It’s incredible how stylish, beautiful, sober, well thought and functional can it be and also how well has been kept. I recommended to take a (which are very well conducted) to get a notion of the stories behind the architecture and its habitants. We paid 5 Euros to the small museum. It is worth it if you're in the area. If you're an architecture buff, you must see it. There is so much detail preserved. The Aalto masterpiece is building full of positive energy. No wonder this site was chosen for the sanatorium to cure tuberculosis. I really hope the ambitious Spirit of Paimio project manages to save it for future generations. There is an interesting exhibition, some rooms in original state to stay overnight, restaurant and outdoor pathways for walking. I found the most interesting part of the sanatorium to be the outside, not the inside of it. It was nice though to take a guided and hear about the history of the place. The blanket for the Olympic games in 1940 in Helsinki (which were cancelled due to WWII), was the most fascinating item! Very interesting building by Finnish architect Alvar Aalto from the 1930s. Worth a visit if one happens to be in the vicinity. Day visit and of the former TB hospital. The history of the architecture and building design are amazing. Very forward thinking. Excellent lunch as well. I wanted to spend time and experience the sanatorium, so I decided to stay for two days there. The timing was perfect, as I travelled from Helsinki by bus, and then walked 1:20hours to the place. The first day you simply rest after the trip, second you can visit the and make a hike in a forest, and the third day you calmly leave. Place: I stayed in a nurses home, which was quite comfortable, giving you the experience of the omg times through its interior, colors and smells. Tour: informative, interesting. Restaurant: food was delicious, huge breakfast is included in the room price. Location: I was expecting more calm and tranquility, which was not really possible because of the nearby road. But times change, right? However the hike in the forest (11 km one) brings this feeling. Very easy and pleasant walk. Overall, fully recommend the place and experience! I have been wanting to visit Paimio Sanatorium for a few years. Albeit coming from Helsinki and missing out on the English led tour, I still did the later that was in Finnish. my guide was brilliant because she spoke a bit in English to explain a few things as well as giving me a small book written in English so that I could follow the tour. Brilliant all round and would highly recommend it if you are a fan of Alvar Aalto’s work.
