Feom outside it looks quite banal , somewhat austere.. once inside , it's much nicer with a bar and a self catine kind of facilities. In general, nothing was stiff or pretentious. The Turku Philharmonic Orchestra is a world class group, and the only full time professional orchestra in Turku. All members have been selected through a "blind audition" process where the selection committee cannot see who plays. They are only allowed to listen. Last time I was here it was the concert of "Hevisaurus", a children's heavy metal group who were supported by the Turku Philharmonic orchestra. It was entertaining and educational. What a priviledge it is to have this level of entertainment! Good concert hall with a widely varying repertoire. You can rent the hall for concerts of your own if you need to have a venue for a thousand people. The acoustics are a bit hard and overwhelming and the fortes can even be painful in the most extravagant performances like Mahler and such. There was a job fair held on the second floor. Nothing special. Companies came to get acquainted. Difficult to work, not very flexible local technical team. Great acoustics. Friendly staff that dealt with our non-Finnish-speaking bumbling around with good grace. Easy to find, with nearby travel facilities. Sisältä on hieno ja avara, alakerrassa naulakot ja vessat, yläkerrassa itse saliin pääsy. Orkesteri soi hyvin ja penkit todella mukavat tälläiselle pitkälle miehellekkin!
