Wow, so important roman city but totally forgotten. Once even capital of Empire. 6 ceasers were born here. Unfortunattely after barbarians sacked it in 6th century it was destroyed. The emperial is excavated and it you are a fan and get into conversation with employees....you might čet virtual glasses to see how the used to be like. Kids loved it. Oh, entree fee is like 2-3€ It holds the remains of a Roman imperial which was home to several Roman Emperors in the middle and late empire including Constantine I. The was built at the end of the 3rd or beginning of the 4th century AD. The complex has now been opened to the public as a museum. Only one part of the imperial complex can be seen. Enjoy the Roman art. Luxurious interior decoration there is achieved with the fragments of frescoes, mosaic pavements and architectural ornament. They have a small entrance fee. IMPERIAL in Sirmium - This is a very interesting archaeological place where the life of the glorious and powerful Roman Empire existed many centuries ago. Many historical architectural remains, artifacts on how they have lived, survived, conquered and practiced their powers as emperors or great leaders. Their historical displays and stories are really very impressive and educational for historian fanatics. So, if ever you come to visit Serbia, don´t hesitate to include this place in your travel bucket-list. Remains of the Roman palace. You can listen a story about Sirmium, see how they made warm floors and got fresh water 2000 years ago. I expected to see more in such big building, please put some Roman weapons, tools and other things people used here. If you love and want to see one of the most significant places in the later Roman Empire, this place should be on your list. This is where Marcus Aurelius planned his military campaigns and wrote large part of his writings. These ruins were lost for centuries, and now are open to the public. Nice view on ancient time. Since while city is built on Sirmium foundations, it was very interesting ti hear about it. The preserved one part of Emperor's and built a building to cover it. Now it's protected and can be seen by tourists. Entrance fee is around 2eur. Custos said few word about histry and preservation which was really great! There are no ques and it's not crowded place. Great place to visit, so much history. Cost was 1000 for 5 people. Wonderful to see the remains of the Imperial Palace. A must see for every buff The lady that works there was very nice and helpful, interesting and educational and good to see when in Sremska Mitrovica Amazing Roman in the heart of Sremska Mitrovica! If you're in the town don't miss the Imperial ruins. Not open regularly may need to ask around to find out opening times or request a private viewing. Amazing place for people, who is interested in history. We book an excursion and have very interesting private lection about Sirmium and emperor for 30 min. The employees truly love their work and respect the history. Btw, there are a lot of historical books and catalogs in the gift shop on English and Serbian. I've bought some. Interesting... shows the evolution. There was a message on the door that the entrance was organized by groups for 20 min, and the door was closed. We had to wait more than 30 min to enter (btw we didn't meet any large groups, people go by 2-3 people). Entrance is 300 dinars per person. The museum has great preserved mosaics that are interesting to look at – everything is in one hall. This is a should see if you are near or traveling around. A very atmospheric place. Realizing that you're looking at ruins over 1,700 years old is an unforgettable feeling. Special thanks to the staff! Their friendliness tripled our positive emotions from visiting this place.
