Lazar is marketed as a high-end cellar and restaurant in the vicinity of the archeological park Stobi. It did not meet my expectations and the general high ratings it is known for. The staff was welcoming and well-prepared to entertain our seemingly basic knowledge of food and pairings. They are willing to go with the schtick, which is good enough for me. We started with the Lazar Salad, which is your average lettuce, arugula, baby spinach ordeal, with a couple of cherry tomatoes (here and there) and figs. The thing is, these are not your fresh, full-bodied figs, well-known in Mediterranean starters; these were the dried variety of a very cheap fig that is remnant of and served during Orthodox holiday dinners during heavy feasts, which does not really make sense and especially does not add to the salad and its flavors. So far from fine dining. And this is a cellar that has a Porsche EV charging station. For our main course, we had a pork fillet in porcini and (what seemed to be) a pumpkin sauce. The dish comes off as average, mostly because it lacked spice of any kind. I enjoyed a plate of Italian risotto with porcini, which was a notch better that the pork fillet, both when it comes to ingredients used and spice added. They seem to go with raw porcini, which gives an acidic taste to the dish that disrupts the palate. Personally, I would go (or maybe expected) dried porcinis, which are a million-dollar worth of taste and would have added a lot to the dish! The desserts consisted of Panna Cotta and Chocolate Cake. Panna Cotta good (retail), chocolate cake – a rich, bursting with Nuttella cake. My main takeaway: the Belan. Really a place worth visiting and it is right on the highway from Skopje to Thessaloniki. A with wonderful wines combined with food for every taste and professional service. In a word, wonderful. Lazar is the perfect getaway for a day of relaxation and enjoyment in this beautiful part of Macedonia. We had an amazing time savoring delicious food and tasting some truly delightful wines. We also had a private mini tour at the winery. Highly recommended! On our way to Skopje, we stopped at Lazar for dinner and to pick up some wine. The food and were delicious, and our waiter was very helpful and attentive. Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding at the end of our visit, which resulted in a mistake on our bill. We had to pay for three additional bottles of sparkling wine, and due to their payment system, they claimed it wasn’t possible to recreate the bill. This was very strange and almost unbelievable. Regardless of the system they’re using, this should be addressed immediately, as it could happen to anyone. Stayed for a night when visiting the nearby archaeological site Stobi. The room was small and comfy, clean and neat. The was supreme, all the staff was polite and friendly, made us feel welcome and appreciated. The food was great, the even better, atmosphere at the restaurant relaxing, perfect for a romantic dinner. We got a small tour through the winery, where we got to know how seriously they are approaching this delicate process of making wine. We had a beautiful dinner at here!! You wont regret. The best hotel I’ve stayed in my life, the attention to detail is impressive: the flowers are natural, the bread is still warm when they bring it, the napkins have the name of the inscribed, etc etc We also did a tour and they explained the whole process answering our questions with patience. Because we found only cold sandwiches in a nearby gas station, we asked a gas station where could we find a restaurant. We had no idea it was this select. From the very beginning, he took care of absolutely everything with professionalism, kindness, and remarkable attention to detail. He guided us through the entire planning process, offered excellent advice, and made sure every aspect of our events was perfectly arranged. On the day itself, he was attentive, calm, and proactive — ensuring that everything ran smoothly so we could simply enjoy our time with our guests. What stood out the most was how much he genuinely cared. His dedication, organization, and warm approach turned our events into truly memorable experiences. We are so grateful for all his hard work. I’ve visited this three times. The first two times were absolutely amazing — atmosphere, service, and wine. However, my third visit was really disappointing. There was a large group of people playing their own loud music, and the place turned into more of a noisy bar than a winery.
